Fair enough. I don't know how much money the AD makes on this deal, or if it will in fact lead to increased jersey sales, which seems to be the real reason for this. But it's not like Nike is asking the university to put a huge new Nike logo on the jersey, it's our own logo, in the Geaux font, and it barely makes a difference. So many people seem to think this is the start of some huge slippery slope that leads to Oregon at the bottom. But the AD appears to have made it pretty clear that this is the end of the road, unless the equipment manager is outright lying.
That's because this has happened at damn near every school nike supplies uniforms to already. And not just the tiny MWC or CUSA teams who take what they can get to save money on equipment. Just look at Uni's around the SEC today. If it can happen to Florida, it can happen to us. And because it can happen, it must be complained about at every opportunity. At least until Toonces is burned at the stake before a homecoming game. I actually dont mind the GEAUX font, but the risk that any current changes will include that damn cartoon is too great to let anything be changed until it's officially gone.
I'd kinda expect that pelican to be something you'd see poking up out of the rear waistband of some girl's tight blue jeans...NOT on any LSU jersey. I mean...Tulane has a pelican that looks like that.
You don't want it to look like this? Randy Miller.JPG on Flickr - Photo Sharing! (stolen from espn.com's uni-watch)
Wow, you've just flew past GO and didn't collect your $200. This just in, LSU can and does win playing on TV, during the day and in purple jerseys. Putting the LSU in the Geaux Font makes sense from a consistency standpoint. It looks dumb to have LSU in two different fonts on the same uniform. And, contrary to popular belief people across the country don't know all know LSU so there is always a need to have the brand out there. As much as everyone complalins about Oregon's uniforms, and btw I don't like then either, those uniforms were designed primarily by players in conjunction with some of the Nike designers that did the Winter Olympics garb a few year's back. The "diamond plate" look on the knees of the pant and shoulders was a suggestion from a Samoan player. So to go off citing Nike as the evil corporate villian robbing everyone of their true identities is absurd. :helmet:
