Well one thing is certain. The Patriots D is every bit as vulnerable as last season when they blew that game vs the Colts.
Going 16-0 is unbelievable. Had you asked me if the '72 Dolphins won the Superbowl or not, I would guess that they did, but I wouldn't be sure. When the announcer was talking about how the Pats have to win the Superbowl to be considered among the best teams in history or whatever, well, even if the Pats do lose, everyone will always know that they went 16-0. That's bigger than winning a Superbowl (which teams do every year). No NFL team has gone undefeated besides the '07 Pats and '72 Dolphins, right?
If they don't win 3 more games it will be the "but they didn't win it all" stamped all over this 16-0 season. That's tough but that's the way it will probably go down. Going undefeated in the regular season is tougher though to win it all. They have 2 weeks off now to get ready for the divisional playoffs.
Thats correct...two teams have gone undefeated in the regular season....the '72 Dolphins and the Pats this season. However, the '72 Dolphins won the Superbowl....but with a shorter season, only going 17-0. The Pats would have to win one more to equal the wins of the '72 Dolphins...but my question is do they have to go 19-0 to "match" the 72 Dolphins???
I still don't think that if they lose in the playoffs that they will have it stamped too badly all over there 16-0 season. Sure, every NFL buff will know that they didn't win the Super Bowl, but casual NFL observers such as myself will always remember that they are the only other team in history to go undefeated in the RS and still think that is pretty amazing. Besides, setting the passing and receiving TDs records on top of that, pretty amazing. Dirt Dog, are you in Boston? I bet people are going nuts up there. Didn't they just win the World Series as well?
This record is cool, but will be rendered meaningless if they don't win the Super Bowl and rightfully so. And the Dolphins can toast that champagne yet again and live to tell about it another year.
