I think he has an offer from Tennessee but waiting to see what else comes up. Tell his wife and family that he is going to take whatever pay cut to coach for Monte Kiffin. Here is a guy who was making over a a million just last year. You get used to a certain lifestyle and taking pay cuts wont wash. He chases the buck like the rest of us.
His quickest way to a pay raise is to be seen with Monte Kiffin. I don't think O has the brains do do it by himself, but Kiffins name alone can push him upwards. Monte Kiffin is a rare defensive mind that has proven his worth over an extended period of time. If Kiffin can't make a DC or HC out of O no one can. If O has an offer from Tennessee sitting on the table he is an absolute idiot for not immediately jumping on it.
Is Ole Miss still paying Orgeron anything because they fired him? That could be a reason that a pay cut, etc. may not be an issue. And, please, don't underestimate the pull that staying in Louisiana may have for him. Perhaps he really does enjoy being close to home again.
And some wives are more open to moving every couple of years than others. I don't know what age his children are, but if they are in junior high/high school, it is likely his wife will not be supportive of a move. $ is very important, but it isn't everything, and quality of life, where you live, proximity to friends means a great deal. O is not in the po' house right now, nor will he be if he goes back to the college ranks. LSU has just as good a chance of landing him as Tennessee. Ogeron himself has stated his interest in working at LSU. Probably not an idle statement. Seems like we will know shortly enough.
i honestly dont think its Coach O's decision ... Most married men listen to whatever their wife/family says ... I see this being a easy get, he is already in the boot and havent been here that long ... they like it where they are and prolly dont want to uproot and move to tenn ... just my opinion edit - geez too many people posting generally the same thing around the same time DOH !
This is very true. My husband works from home for a New Jersey company. If they ever force his hand about living there, though, we're going to have to look elsewhere for employment. I can't fathom being that far away from my family.
For selfish reasons, I hope LSU doesn't get James Willis in any capacity. Willis is a solid, technical teacher of fundamentals and a solid motivator. He didn't have much talent to work with at AU due primarily to devastating injuries on the defensive side of the ball. The loss of Tray Blackmon was significant for CJW's LB unit this season. The real reason I don't want y'all to get him? ..... Willis was, IMHO, the best recruiter that Auburn had on staff.
