It makes perfect sense. Why stay with a dreadful franchise when you can coach at a top-tier program in college.
This is exactly what LSU needs. Im sick of the zone crap, get somebody in here to stomp a mudhole in somebody's ass, and walk the sumbitch dry. I hope we get these two with Willis from AU.
 There is one thing that motivates most coaches and its $$$$$$$. We would all like to think that coaching at a place like LSU would be special for any of these guys but they are just hired guns. We as fans would crawl on broken glass to coach at LSU but you can forget that mindset being in most coaches heads. I stand by my original contention, the Ogre coming to LSU makes no sense... especially from a business perspective.
unless he thinks there is gonna be a shake up with the saints and job security is not a sure thing for anyone there.
It still boils down to the almighty dollar and earning potential...a business decision. Whats our D-line coach getting paid now? 125k maybe? Orgeron is making 225K with the Saints, more than our D-coordinators. The highest paid non-coordinator assistant in college is Rodney Garner who makes 200K at Georgia. There is little difference in head coaching salary between the NFL and college. Its a much wider gap when you talk about assistants. We will have to substantially alter our assistants pay scale to get Orgeron.
If Orgeron is making 225K with the Saints, I'd think that LSU or Tenn would easily pay him 225K to come to their schools. We paid Mallory 200K and Peveto 200K, so I don't see why we wouldn't pay Orgeron 225K+, especially if we name him DL/Asst Head Coach, or DL/co-DC, or DL/co-Recruiting Coordinator, or whatever. If the Saints, LSU, and Tenn all want Ed O bad enough, it would be interesting to see the bidding war over him. Of course, there are other programs out there that might like to have him as their DC.
IMO, what would be best for Ed O's career would be to go to Tennessee and work with Monte Kiffin, one of the most respected defensive minds in football. Having experience under Monte Kiffin would be more impressive for his resume that coming to LSU or staying with the Saints.
Absolutely and that's what makes me think he does not have a Tennessee offer on the table. You want to become a DC then you go work with/for Monte Kiffin period, no matter what the pay cut.
He's going to go where the money is and there may be a school wanting him as a D-coordinator. If he gets an offer like that all this discussion is moot. Im not saying we cant pay him but do we need to? Do we need to set that precedent on our staff? What do we need a recruiting coordinator for anyway? We are already recruiting lights out. Is he the best bang for the buck we can get as a defensive line coach? I dont think so. He seems like a much better fit at Tennessee where their head coach is making half of what Miles makes with plenty of salary cushion to justify paying the Ogre. They need his recruiting prowess bad, he has a working relationship with Lane Kiffin and the chance to move up to D-coordinator when Monte Kiffins short term stint is up at Tenn. I dont see him being a big need for us. A top flight D-coordinator and good line coach is all we need. Getting into some bidding war for the Ogre because he can recruit is not necessary.
