Not my rumor. Well, actually, since I'm passing it along - I guess it's sorta my rumor as well now. But I'm just passing it along from TOS. MODS. Before you delete, I only posted this because most if not all of it is either reasonably possible or has already been reported (i.e. Walker is a candidate, Raymond is already on staff, and The O and Miles are clearly discussing his future.) DC: Dwayne Walker LB: James Willis from Auburn DB: Corey Raymond (Asst S&C at LSU) DL, Asst HC, and ST: The Orgeron Mallory to NM. Peveto to NWestern Louisiana Earl Lane to Florida Atlantic? What to do with Robinson? Guess that's a sticking point in this rumor. If that's all true - hell if 75% of that is true - will there still be beetching from the Saban Smokers? Also, will Miles get credit for taking such great care of the outgoing coaches instead of just firing them outright?
I would be incredibly impressed if all of that pans out. Getting Willis would be huge. I don't know long he was at Auburn, but they have had great LBs for years. Not quite sure about Raymond as DBs coach.
Corey Raymond -- 4 year starter at CB for LSU, was a CB for six years in the NFL (Giants 92-94, Lions 95-97). http://appl027.lsu.edu/athletics/tigerpower.nsf/$Content/Corey+Raymond Career, he had 258 tackles, 29 assists, 11 interceptions (one returned for a TD), 3 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, and 1 fumble recovery: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/R/RaymCo21.htm From a 1/10/08 piece on Bayou Bengal Blog: One additional item of interest should Mallory move up to defensive coordinator is that LSU has a graduate assistant working with defensive backs in Corey Raymond, a former Tiger starting cornerback who played six NFL seasons with the New York Giants and Detroit Lions from 1992-97, who might well be a candidate to move up into a staff position. Raymond has drawn significant praise for his work with Jackson and Jonathan Zenon under Mallory, and last year as a host during recruiting some credit him for being the driving force behind LSU's landing of Terrence Toliver. If Mallory were to move up as the DC, it stands to reason that Raymond - already with bona fides for player development and recruiting as a GA - could be in line to take over as a position coach in the secondary. http://www.bayoubengalblog.com/2008/01/thanks-for-memories-bo-whos-next.html Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis chats with LSU assistant coach Corey Raymond prior to the Sugar Bowl football game between Notre Dame and LSU at the Louisiana Superdome in New Orleans Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007. I still don't get what the big deal is with Dwayne Walker. John, what are some of his accomplishments? :hihi:
From what I've seen, he's a popular name in most LSU circles already -- although I did see this LSU blog today or yesterday where the author argued that he didn't get it and had some reasons why (in direct response, a UCLA blogger wrote a reply defending how great Walker is). A few hours ago, I checked the Week 16 Rivals Power Rankings when looking into Georgia Tech, and saw that they currently rank Walker as a Top 25 defensive coordinator, meaning they think he is a "hot name."
Yeah, but top 25 based on what? I think UGA's defensive coordinator was in the top 10 before the last week of the season, and he's been horrible.
i played highschool football with corey and graduated with him, he is a very bright person and also a very team oriented player which would make him a really good players coach.
I think TF has been the only LSU forum that hasn't been all over Walker's jock, and rightfully so. You go to TOSs and you would think this guy has Bud Foster's credentials. It's unreal. UCLA's defenses under this guy have been less than mediocre, and in a conference with sub par offenses.
i think walker does a lot with a very little. i also think he'll be a head coach in the next few years. i don't honestly think he's a candidate though.
Re: New Defensive Staff: Rumor Alert I would say that if Miles manages to put this together, he has hit a Homerun, not a grand slam, but solid. In the individual picture I wouldn't say that any of those choices is the best there is, but in the big picture, as a group, they have the potential to be nasty. My biggest concern with putting together this group, would be can Miles manage all those egos. Thats a lot of fire power.
