Has ok speed, decent height but definitely needs to bulk up. 3 star/4 star prospect? Decent pickup.

That's a little surprising. Any idea how this affects Prentiss Waggner, Robby Green and TJ Bryant?

    Shouldn't.

St. Julian is only the 9th commitment for this class and with losing Chevis Jackson and Zenon to graduation after this season, we're going to need multiple DB's in this class.

The CB position is one of serious need this year. To start the '08 season, we could very well have but 2 true cornerbacks with game experience: Jai Eugene figures to get a decent amount of playing time this year after redshirting last season and Phelon Jones might be the second true corner to get playing time. Chris Hawkins has some playing experience, but he's more of a safety than a true corner--and he lacks the coverage skills of guys like Jackson, Zenon and Eugene (and probably Phelon Jones).

Transfer Tyson Andrus who was just a squadman last season might also prove to be useful as a reserve....heck...he may be forced to be useful because we don't have a lot of depth at the position.

Normally, I'm a huge advocate of redshirting players no matter the position. I just feel that an entire year of college-level weight training and learning the speed of the game slowly in practice is better in the long run....but the CB position is definately one that we don't have that option at this point.

After this season, we'll have a LOT of question marks in the defensive backfield. I'm assuming that Jai and Phelon will be the starting CB's and Danny McCray will likely man one of the safety spots--at least remain a nickel/dime/safety contributor like he was last season...But after those three, we really don't know. Will Chad Jones be a Tiger??? Is Shomari Clemons an OLB or safety??? Can that Francois kid from ESJ be ready to fill one of the safety spots????

Pretty good breakdown. Eugene will play the nickle position and learn early like Zenon did. I think Francois will be ready to show his stuff after some mop up duty this year. I think Clemons will be a OLB this year and he could change back over if desperatly needed in future years.

Don't forget true freshman: John Williams & Ron Brooks. IMO, John Williams will play CB, Brooks is probably a WR, but could be wrong.

Baton Rouge Advocate lists Ryan St. Julien at 6' 1" 175 lbs. as of today. Miles is addressing the needs areas very quickly. Looks like Brandon Taylor & Ryan St. Julien at corner in the 2008 class so far, if Brandon playes CB. (I think Jhyryn Taylor will be a S/WR)

We're taking quite a few corners in this class. St. Julien looks like another decent pick up - probably a 3 star. We got a lot in last class too. Hopefully some of these guys pan out & develop because as Atl was saying, next year is going to hurt.

CParso, you're usually "in the know" on some of these things, so I'll ask you:

What happened to that corner we signed last year, but didn't qualify, Teague was his name... I remember after signing day, LOTS of publications raved about how he could be a hidden gem for us...but then he didn't qualify and never came.

Any word on what he's doing? Where he's at and if he plans on re-signing??
