Great news!!! Scout has Lowe as a 4*, ranked #10 best OT prospect in the US. Rivals has Lowe as a 4* as well, ranked #12 best OT prospect in the US. He had offers from Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Auburn, Arkansas, and Tennessee (per Scout). ESPN claims he was also recruited by Miami, Alabama, UCLA, Arizona, West Virginia, Kansas... Here is the ESPN evaluation of Lowe: He's also been invited to go to the Under Armor All-American Game in Orlando, Florida. Lowe said: "I am excited to showcase my talents against the very best," Lowe said." I also can't wait to go to Walt Disney World." Here's a Sporting News article discussing Lowe to LSU -- http://www.sportingnews.com/blog/LSURay/159311 Some quotes: (LOL at how sad Auburn and Oklahoma are when it comes to being a cool place to live). Here's another good article by ESPN/Scouts Inc -- http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/recr...story?id=3469480&campaign=rsssrch&source=espn The author is Bill Conley, former long-time Ohio State recruiting coordinator. It says: KEEP THIS IN MIND: When this Bill Conley keeps saying how great of a pick-up Lowe is for LSU, remember that Conley's Ohio State got Orlando Pace in the 90's -- one of the greatest offensive lineman in all of football history. Finally, when Conley was saying Lowe is "smart," Lowe did get academic awards, for example, Academic All-District and the May 2008 NCSA Student-Athlete of the Month. http://www.ncsasports.org/student-athletes-families/
We've lost a lot of OL recently, we don't want to get in a situation like we found ourselves after Saban left. In order to do this, because of the success rate of evaluating OL, we need to take 4-5 a year and more in years following unusual losses.
Nixon would be great, but if XSF has to go on a mission it may be something to consider. Then again, you would get a player 2 years older and possibly physically more mature, so who knows.
The only down side to that is he doesn't have to come back to LSU when he returns from his mission unless they've amended that policy. I recall a few players coming back from their mission and choosing UCLA over their original school BYU.
With last years OLine class combined with what we have so far LSU will stay an elite team. I talked to an LSU coach at a clinic and he told me that "les has final say with all linemen."
