So let's get this back on track Anyone see this? Am I reading this correctly? You make a fair catch at the 5 but get to start at the 25? Cant be right...right?
sorry, tis true Return teams will be allowed to fair catch kicks inside the 25-yard line; ensuing drive will start at the 25 The NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel approved altering football’s kickoff rules to allow the receiving team to fair catch the kick inside the 25-yard line and have it result in a touchback. The Football Rules Committee made the proposal to continue efforts to increase the number of touchbacks during kickoffs since fewer injuries occur during kickoffs that result in touchbacks than on kickoffs that are returned. All other aspects of the kickoff play will remain the same.
That's what it looks like. That's fucked up. They are messing with the very fabric of the game of football. Would Chad Jones have made that 93 yard punt return vs Moo U if he could have made a fair catch at the 7? You know the answer. Les Miles would have order his punt returners never to run back any punt caught within the 25.
Of course he would, as would any other coach if they are going to spot it on the 25 even if you catch it on the 2.
kick off returns have been shown to be the most dangerous,.. They've been griping about it for years, too bad kick off returns are also among the most exciting. I say, ok then,.. pussify ko's to protect the kids, I'll buy that, but leave the rest of the game as is,.. that's not gonna happen though
If I understand it right,.. that only happens on fair catches, if he catches and runs with it, spotting on the 25 does not apply
It won't apply but how many runbacks are we going to see in ratio to fair catches. Will we see runbacks from punts caught at the 15-20 yardlines? Probably not.
Exactly So do you fair catch on the 2 or take a chance that you can advance it further than the 25 by running? Lots of variables to consider but I'd be willing to bet the kick return has just been crucified right before our very eyes.
