Aside from the obvious, winning games, what can the new basketball coach do to change the atmosphere in the PMAC? I have seen things at other schools where seating was immediately changed, students relocated to prime seats, etc etc. All results of ideas and initiatives taken by newly hired coaches. What, if anything, would you suggest?

    someone who is personable/charasmatic.

Brady never really seemed to want to be "part of the LSU community".

Very rarely did he try to reach out to anyone. He didn't seem to mind being disliked.

So I think just being kinda like Bruce Pearl.

    Have some fun.

what was his relationship to the community outside of lsu like? i was wondering specifically along the lines of relationships with hs coaches in br and the rest of the state.

if not good, or non-existant, i would say building good relationships with hs coaches to get the in state talent, and to build the image of the bb program in the community of br to try to increase attendance.

The new coach will have a lot of work to do with the fans. I'd like to see him make a big deal out of midnight madness. The 6th man club needs to be pushed hard. It's similar to football's gridiron club and a great way to get boosters involved in the program.

More importantly, the Ath Dept needs to step up and promote men's bball. They need to get off their butts and get the practice facility done asap. Dale Brown had to travel the state to promote his program during the offseason b/c our Ath Dept wouldn't. They didn't help Brady, and he decided he wasn't going to pull a Sue Gunter standing outside Alberston's to promote her program. Coaches shouldn't have to do this things.

I'm excited. Hope the new coach and AD are, too.

the question was not about winning, but about how the coach would win over the fan-base, dude.

Pearl is a hero in Tennessee. Partly, yes, because he wins.

But also because he is a clown.

Point being, even when LSU won under Brady, the PMAC was still empty... There ARE ways to fix that.

thats not true actually. brady had the best sec win/loss record over a 5 year span at one point (in the west) and a long home winning streak and no one was showing up.

It should be about wins but this became more personal amongst many. also, baton rouge is a town that will follow basketball when their is nothing else to pique their interests (outside of the usual 6k usual season ticket holders).

If LSU doesnt have a dog and pony show type of gimmick approach like dale brown once did, the attendance numbers will always be average at best.

that is unless you really think we can have a NC caliber coach here in basketball where LSU is perennially in the final 8.

Floyd aint coming so that leaves a lot of unproven guys not dissimilar from what we had in brady. Hopefully they have pom poms.

neither me. I just want to win, but again, that wasn't the question posed.

the question was how to win over the fan-base.

Brady proved winning wasn't all it took.

was gonna ask you if floyd is "proven", but i decided to wiki instead. success at UNO (for them) and Iowa St (regular ncaa 2nd round appearances but no deep runs).

the interesting thing is that the wiki entry already mentions cjb's firing and floyd as a possible replacement.
