even if you did, and the snooper was white, you should call the regular cops, because white people are not illegal immigrants.

of course, not always, but most of the time.

yunno, i pointed out that racial profiling is ok and necessary. but honestly i would hate it if i were latino and i kept getting hassled. but yunno, such is life. but to say that i could be detained for not carrying proof of citizenship, that is too much. and it appears to me that people want that to be the policy.

No, it doesn't. People can be suspicious for things unrelated to race. This is obvious to any child suspected of misbehavior. Is his mother using race to be suspicious or the fact that he was caught leaving the kitchen with chocolate pudding on his face? Get real.

Profiling someone by his activities is not illegal and is the basis of most police investigations. We pay them to investigate suspicious behavior.

What if you were dehydrated, confused and lost? Sure they would call. What if you were naked and talking nonsense or perhaps in a foreign language like Polish. What if you were crossing private posted hunting leases without firearms and avoiding roads. It's only all about race to proud racists like yourself.

Only he didn't say that at all. I know for a fact that you are full of crap on this one because I have been stopped, ID'ed, and questioned near the Canadian border for suspicious behavior. Have I mentioned that I'm not Mexican or Muslim and look remarkably like a "red-haired Irishman"? But I was suspicious because I was using a back road and had a canoe and rod cases on the rack. I wasn't being profiled as an illegal alien, I was being profiled as a "coyote" for Canadian fish illegally immigrating to the United States. I swear that I don't look like a fish. Take it from me, you can be as white as Maggie's drawers and still be "suspicious" near the border.

That's a pretty lame response, seeing as how your argument is being shredded. You don't know what a lie is, do you? You think it means disagreeing with you?

No, you made that up. Liar.

The foolishness here is the notion that people can only be profiled by race. In fact, they can be profiled by what they do, what they say, what they carry, where they are, how they act, and how they react.

yes, people who are doing crimes not related to immigration. like i said, if a white person is acting weird, you should call regular cops, not immigration enforcement.

they wouldnt call immigration on me. i am white and obviously american.

and everyone else. this whole issue is about race. clearly.

again, you were being "profiled" for activity that had nothing to do with immigration. because you are white you dont have to deal with being hassled about immigration.

    it was a question!

of course, but race is the primary issue here. the arizona cops are defintely not gonna suspect i am an illegal immigrant, purely based on the way i look, there is no doubt about that. it would be a completely different story if i had darker skin. i would be profiled, and that is ok. no reason to deny it.

martin is exactly right. This law requires racial profiling. Case in point... a cop pulls over a dude for speeding. He is white so the gives him a ticket and lets him go. The same cop pulls over another speeder. It is a black guy so the cop gives him a ticket and lets him go. The same cop pulls over a third guy who is brown and speaks with a heavy spanish accent. He detains him for not having proof of immigration status.

Turns out the Canadian is an illegal immigrant working as a freelance graphic designer who doesn't pay his taxes. The black guy is an english speaking Nigerian who is here on an expired student visa and has ties to al queda. The brown dude is an american citizen who owns a taco truck, pays his taxes, and served in the army.

The immigration law only works if you racially profile or detain everyone.

    to re-iterate:

racial profiling isnt wrong. i talk to cab drivers all the time and they openly admit they hate picking up black people. they tip badly, ask you to take them way up to harlem and then get out of the cab and run away withoiut paying. so they avoid blacks. and this is terrible if you are a law abiding black fella who cant get a ride. but so be it, the cabbies cant help it.

same scenario here, except the profiling is justified by a crime that is really insignificat. so when we start profiling regular latin folks and hassling them for papers, we are doing it to prevent illegal immigration, which isnt really a serious problem anyways. the annoyance isnt worth it because we should just let these illegals be here, because they are good for our country.

so in this case, racial profiling is not a necessary evil.

another example is aiports, we should profile arabs. and that sucks if you are a nice arab, but yunno, too bad, it is a necessary evil, we have to profile. but not with immigration. the problem isnt bad enough to justify messing with folks, and definitely not bad enough to justify detaining peeps for not having citizenship proof.

You guys are irrational. You are suggesting that just because someone happens to be racially "Mexican-looking" then he gets a free pass and cops cannot detain him for any suspicious behavior at all . . . even swimming the Rio Grande.

what i am saying is that immigration enforcement is necessarily a business that involves racial profiling and it dishonest to pretend otherwise. so when we expand our tactics and become more aggressive it will be more oppressive to law-abiding mexos that get caught up in these "suspicious" situations.

yunno how black folks say they get pulled over for "DWB, driving while black"? clearly this is true, they do get pulled over for this, because cops ae smart adn know that black folks like crime. it is not irrational on the part of the cops. that doesnt makke it suck any less for the innocent black folks. same situation applies here except rooting out illegals is less pressing and doesnt merit annoying the living crap out of legals by making them carry proof of citizenship all the time or risk being detained.
