it is ludicicrous to pretend this stuff is not racial profiling. whether racial profiling is wrong (it isnt) is a different question.

clearly immigration enforcement is based on racial profiling. it cant really be effective otherwise.

A vehicle parks at the border (most of which has no fence or visible division) in a remote area and a "local" calls the Border Patrol. (clearly based on racial profiling)

A vehicle drives across the border and someone calls the Border Patrol. (clearly based on racial profiling)

A rancher who lives on the border and knows his/her property well calls the Border Patrol because he/she notices vehicle and/or pedestrian tracks that cross the border. (clearly based on racial profiling)

An ultralight aircraft flies at a low altitude across the border and has packages strapped to the sides. Someone observes this and calls the Border Patrol. (clearly based on racial profiling)

Hunters who frequent an area observe several people who are clearly out of place. They have no hunting or camping equipment and make comments which make it obvious they're not conducting legitimate business. The hunters contact the Border Patrol. (clearly based on racial profiling)

A family driving on a highway near the U.S./Canada border observes several people run out of the brush and then immediately return to the brush. The family is driving a van and assumes the people may have thought the vehicle was there to pick them up. They continue driving but contact the Border Patrol. (clearly based on racial profiling)

This is not the same as the Arizona law. This is nothing more than a Neighborhood Watch / Citizen Awareness type program. This also keeps people vigilant and saves money as we don't have the funds to hire enough Border Patrol Agents to hold hands across the border.

Who knows their area better than the "locals"? In many remote areas along the Canadian border the locals know when something is out of place. We know the same along our coastline. Don't underestimate the contributions of the people who live, work, raise families, pay taxes, and care for their property and community.

Those who claim this is racial profiling are simply attempting to handcuff enforcement activities due to their own political agenda.

I think this is a great program and I commend those who care enough about their country and community to contribute to keeping them safe! :usaflagwa

this is just a dishonest position. to effectively fight illegal immigration, you MUST use racial profiling. just like you need to stop muslims at the airport.

the right is so spineless because they accept that accusations of racism work. they shouldnt. they should accept that racial profiling is good and it works.

you should argue that racial profiling is acceptable, that the reality of things is that immigrants are not generally white fellas with argyle sweaters, or black guys with lakers jerseys. this is a fact. to identify suspicious folks is to racial profile. stop pretending it isnt.

we as a society need to stop pretending that making judgments based on race is inherently wrong. it isnt.

Purple slayed you in post 522, amigo. You didn't address a single point. This a simple repeating of your already-shattered position.

okietiger talked about her "suspicious people", and that clearly means racial profiling, which is the phrase i was addressing. purple tiger invented scenarios with suspicious activity, not suspicious people. and also he was dishonest with some scenarios:

"Hunters who frequent an area observe several people who are clearly out of place."

that means mexicans. i guarantee you you are not calling immigration if you see me there, because i am white and therefore not "out of place". although perhaps you would call the DEA.

'A family driving on a highway near the U.S./Canada border observes several people run out of the brush and then immediately return to the brush."

when he says "people" he means "brown people". especially muslims, because the example is canada.

the example with the airplane is clearly drug related, not illegal immigrants. dont call the cops, drugs should be legal anyways.

purple didnt slay anyone. he lied, and you are lying now too by implying that immigration enforcement is not based on racial racial profiling.

do you also claim that racial profiling doesnt/shouldnt happen at airports?

again, the lie here is that profiling is wrong, and that makes everyone pretend they are not profiling when they damn sure are profiling, and should be.

right, i bet your "supicious people" were red-haired irishmen. ridiculous.

yunno its not like we have families of white belgians creeping across the border to get jobs as roofers. these folks are latinos! those are the ones we are profiling! why deny that?

so much stupid pretending in order to appease this absurd idea that racial profiling is wrong.
