How is that any different than Reagan and the Southern Strategy? Repubs still run the house and senate and as soon as they can find a way to keep people from voting in the presidential election, or fix it somehow, like they have gerrymandered congressional districts they will have that too.
Lesalle the only thing keeping those who voted for DS in presidential election is their own laziness and disinterest.
Gotta disagree, this country has way more progressives than conservatives. Conservatives have just done a really fine job of supressing the vote. Drug war is one way, restrictive voter ID laws, gerrymandering. If you can't win, change the rules. It's worked.
You are really smoking too much. If the country had "way more progressives", there wouldn't be the opportunity to gerrymander, suppress the vote (as you claim). YOUR guy is in charge of the drug war now. Seven years later, how is it possible that an election happened like 2014 if everyone agreed with you? Gerrymandering works both ways, ask Corrine Brown. Here in NY, a solid blue state, they are stopping local elections to create a "majority, minority district" since there is a large group of immigrants that moved into one area. I have to show ID to vote, prove to me that Conservatives want to suppress the LEGAL voters. You have to have ID to: buy a car, open a bank account, get a drivers license, buy a beer, buy cigarettes, establish residency for school, board an airplane, and buy pot with a prescription. The outrage about not showing ID to vote is a fucking joke and the only ones complaining are the ones that benefit the most.
actually this is true, Republicans do a great job of messaging and turning their vote out during non presidential elections. Dems dont, republicans do work pretty hard at voter suppression in the disguise of getting rid of voter fraud. Its a brilliant strategy. Just like the southern strategy, brilliant.
Gerrymandering happens because of the census every ten years. the last census was in 2010, a conservative victory year. If it had happened in 2006, it would have been a democratic victory year. Luck of the draw. And conservatives are not a majority in this country by far. According to Gallup as of 2013, self-identified conservatives stand at 34%, moderates at 38%, and liberals at 23%. But self identification is not always in line with their wishes on the issues. The Progressive Majority: Why a Conservative America is a Myth
Fortunately most Republicans are foolish and un-practical, like you. That is the strategic mistake the increasingly right-wing extremist Republicans have made in the last two Presidential elections. They ignore the moderate majority and go way right in the primaries and are unable to center themselves for the big election and they lose the moderates to the democrats. Most Democrats are progressives leaning toward the middle, not Ted Kennedy liberals leaning left. Most Republicans under Tea Party radicals have begun to lean right, away from the middle. Most Independents are moderates who go with pragmatic leadership and they are leaning left these days because the Republicans refuse to embrace moderate policies anymore. The democrats biggest fear is an enlightened Republican that cuts loose the Tea party and campaigns for the center-right vote, the old Reagan Republicans. If such a person could actually get out of the Republican primaries, he could be a major player in the main election.
You like definitions and all so I thought you would appreciate a joke. Go drink some prune juice and loosen up a little.
