Did you wake up Einstein, because that could be one of the most intelligent posts made in quite some time, by anyone.:thumb:
It doesn't mean I agree with ANY of the negativity. That's why it's so ridiculous that some of us have to defend ourselves from being labeled "Sunshine pumpers". I (we) am not stupid...I know full well the issues this team has. Doesn't mean there aren't positives, and doesn't mean I need to go slamming every aspect of the team/program on a public message board. Again, I'm not disagreeing with the OP here. I agree, in fact. Just pointing out the obvious. Fans can't fix the issues, and fixing the issues is the only sure way to stop the negative press/publicity in the media and on these boards. The media is very sensationalistic, and message boards are so varying in their makeup. Half of the people on these message boards are between 12-18 years old, and half of the other half act like they're between 12-18 years old. Most people have 'filters' that allow them to think before they speak. The internet message board provides an avenue to "speak" without filters, because usually nobody that reads these posts actually knows the poster personally...and will never meet them. So we get a lot of big talk from people that may normally be tactful and reserved. Or maybe they really are idiots, but they know it deep down, and keep their mouths shut in public...where they are identifiable. The media? Ratings drives that. Unfortunately, they get a large portion of their "opinions" from these very message boards. Sad.
If I'm a recruit, my 1st consideration is . . . Who is starting at my position and when does he leave? How soon will I see the field? Who else are they recruiting at my position? How long until I can start? Can I major in the kinesiology of basket fabrication? Followed by . . . Is it a major university with a first class football program and a winning tradition? LSU is a perennial Top-10 team that wins a national championship every five years or so. And by . . . Are my potential teammates good enough to be a contender? Young and talented LSU is likely to be in the Top-10 next year . . . no matter who the coach is. And finally . . . Does it have a proven winning head coach? The current and previous head LSU coaches have averaged 10 wins and won national championships. If Les departs this year or next year, LSU will go out and hire another top coach.
Good points Fish and I dont disagree. There are issues that need resolving. At the same time I believe too many fans responses have been disproportionately negative. The extent of the negativity is not warranted by the facts. When you have key players talking about "CRAZY" negativity it flat out shows that the players are aware of the negativity and consider it unreasonable. Fans would do better to work for positive change in a positive way. I still believe that Les's biggest shortcoming in the eyes of many fans is that he is not Nicky Satan. Everything else in window dressing. Miles has one of the best records in LSU history. He's only lost one bowl game. He's 5-0. Runs a clean program and his players stay out of trouble. He's known for his loyalty to his coaches and his players, and his players respect him and play hard. Fans forget how LSU was a middling program for decades and never, ever beat Alabama. Losing to Bama was a given. And they forget the terrible 15 year stetch before Satan showed up. So yes, I think the magnitude of the current negativity is way overdone and a poor reflection on the fan base. Its giving the program a bad vibe it neednt have and it likely will effect the decisions of the very top recruits who are recruited nationally and torn between many choices.
Oh, is that why we have "sunshine pumpers?" This is also a reflection of the extent of negativity: We've gotten to the point if someone says something positive about Miles or LSU they are "sunshine pumpers."
Very true. I posted this before that, even us sunshine pumpers see the deficiencies with this team and the coaching, but the negatigers are so vocal they have forced us into defending Miles, even when we really don't want to, only because their negativity is so overboard.
That sounds like ignore the problem and work on the symptom mentality that has gotten LSU to this point. The avalanche of negative media coverage nor negative fan views is NOT the problem, that is only the symptom. The problem is, all LSU fans wanted to do for years was work on the symptoms and ignored the problem. Fix the problem and watch the symptoms disappear as Fishhead suggested.
No, I don't agree with it on either side. Aren't we all glad there are differences in opinion? Wouldn't it suck if everyone either was part of a mutual admiration society or so down and negative that the board was too depressing to read? I admit, after the last several weeks, myself and others may seem to be nothing but negative but after a few days, that wears off and we can start focussing on the next week.
