On RB... It looks like there's only one good RB in La this year, Alonzo Landry, and I've heard conflicting reports on how good he is. He's on the Rivals 250 to watch list, but people that've seen him haven't been that impressed. But, 2009 is loaded with stud RBs in La so we could probably pick up three high quality ones the next year if we don't find a good one in this class.
If Giddens and Thomas are booted, you can add two more to that list. Figure in an oversign of 2 or 3, and it looks like a normal size class.
AT first glance we do look good in the RB position. But a closer look will show you that after this year we will lose 2 of our 7 running backs, and three of those remaining will be juniors in 2008. We have two LTs and one (Glen Dorsey) is a senior. We have 3 RTs but two (Charles Alexander and Marlon Favorite) are juniors. One could easily go pro after this season depending on what kind of a season they have. We have 3 REs, two of whom are juniors. I think there is a good chance that one of these, probably Tyson Jackson, could go pro after the year. LE is a little stronger with 4 in that position. But one is a senior and one is a junior. So you are right in that these positions are looking good for 2007. But they will not be looking so good in 2008 unless we add some depth.
Yea, I checked out the depth chart for RB above & realized we were older there than I realized. Who is the 3rd RB we lose besides Alleycat & Hester? I'm still only expecting us to sign 1 RB, unless 2 top flight ones want on board and we have the spot available because the '09 class is absolutely loaded at RB. You are right. I hadn't looked close enough at the depth chart I suppose. I was just thinking about the high quality along the DLine we've been bringing in the past couple years, but until these guys get their shot who knows if they will pan out.
Not personally. LaFell is a flanker. I don't know about the rest because I haven't seen them play any at LSU & can't remember from their highschool highlights. That would be a good way to see it broken down though.
Do we do a good job of recruiting the nation? We are on the cusp of being a national player if we aren't already, I'd imagine testing the waters further away might lead to something. Just curious to what extent we go out of the region. Seems like there'd be interest.
Les has done a great job of attracting talent from outside LA when there are needs that cant be provided in state. He has recruits from Texas, Tenn, Georgia, Florida, Miss, Alabama, Michigan, Colorado(transfer), North Carolina, Nebraska, California, Arizona, Arkansas and Ohio(if Decker was in Miles's class) He is getting interest from all across the nation but we want to keep the wall around LA first in order to keep the stability of the program.
