University of Central Arkansas. I went there 10 years ago, and it was only a you fail a class if you do it offense. I went back and finished 1.5 years ago and it had been upgraded to expelled. This is if it is blatant, if it's small, or an accident you still just fail the class. One of our foreign students in the history department had to try and convince one of the profs that it was on accident while I was there is the only reason I'm familiar with their current rules.
Thanks for filling in the details Vamp. I don't know what the policy was at LSU when I went, but knew better than to even think about doing it. If a small school such as yours deals with it the way they do it would lead me to believe that Golson may have a hard time getting into any new school.
It really depends on the severity of it. If it was a straight out full paper copy of someone else, I doubt he gets into another school. If it was just a small 2-3 page excerpt, yeah someone will take a chance at least for football. If it was a rewording of a paragraph or something he can easily get in elsewhere. I had a single paper that I plagiarized on the first time I was in college. I regretted doing it, and was extremely lucky that I did not get caught. I had copied about 2 pages of a 5 page paper from a textbook, and the funny thing? The prof told me that it was not up to my normal standards and he could tell that I rushed the paper. Of course I agreed with him. I don't know if that was his way of saying hey I caught you but I'm letting you pass because I know your normal work is good or if he just thought that textbook was shitty. It's much harder to get away it with it these days. They now have a database you have to submit your papers to (at least a few of the profs are requiring it). I also let them use my papers in the database which led to a weird moment for me. On my second paper for that professor it came back as 70% plagiarized and I was like fuck that and went to look at it. This database was able to detect my writing from the previous paper and connect it to the new paper. I asked him about it and he said if it's grabbing your own information that just means you have a distinct style of writing. If anyone else used my paper or my notes though apparently they would have problems with that database now lol.
I don't think he's expelled. He's suspended for the fall semester, which includes football season. From what I gather, and I quite possibly and probably am wrong, he can reapply after the fall and could be reinstated.
He's already been told he can re-enroll in the spring. He is suspended for the fall semester only. His problem is, he's opening the door for someone else to get a chance to play and possibly hold onto the starting job. Same situation that got him onto the field this past year.
I hope he makes it back. Some have expressed the idea he struggles for decent grades and the leprechauns take that stuff more serious then most. I'm sure by now many have made it clear to him how much simpler life, as a student, can be in the SEC.
