Is the NCAA bringing the hammer down on MBB rules’ violators? Oklahoma State certainly thinks so. Going back to the FBI investigation into college basketball, the Cowboys are being punished for the actions of former, assistant coach, Lamont Evans. The sanctions include no postseason play in the 2020-21 season, a loss of three scholarships, other recruiting restrictions and a monetary fine. Evans received as 10-year ‘show cause’ penalty. Oklahoma State announced it will appeal. NCAA enforcement experts give the Cowboys little chance of reversal through appeal. North Carolina State (NCSU) is in the ‘Independent Accountability Resolution Process’ (IARP) and the decisions from that process cannot be appealed. Of interest to Alabama basketball fans is NCSU’s NCAA problems go back to the Wolfpack tenure of Mark Gottfried. Five other college basketball programs are known to have received a ‘Notice of Allegations’ from the NCAA. They are TCU, Kansas, Louisville, South Carolina and USC. Notices sent to as many as six other schools may follow. The Alabama basketball program is one of the six, going back to the actions of Kobie Baker. Baker received money for trying to steer a player, and possibly future players, to a financial advisor. and just in case you thought that was a one off, here's a few classics from used kotex u: https://www.al.com/sports/2017/02/sec_footballs_notable_ncaa_cas.html Alabama, 2002 The violations: In the words of Committee on Infractions chairman Thomas Yeager, Alabama was "staring down the barrel of a gun" of the NCAA's death penalty in the most infamous violations case since SMU's program was disbanded in 1987. At the center of the case were Memphis high school star Albert Means and Crimson Tide booster Logan Young, who agreed in 2000 to pay more than $100,000 to Means' high school coaches in order to steer Means to Alabama. Also, Crimson Tide boosters Wendell Smith and Ray Keller were charged with paying $20,000 in 1995 to North Jackson High School standout Kenny Smith, who never enrolled at Alabama and later played at Tennessee. Crimson Tide linebacker Travis Carroll was given complimentary use of a car, which a booster repossessed when Carroll transferred to Florida in 1999. The sanctions: Alabama was placed on probation for five years, docked 21 scholarships over a three-year period and given a two-year postseason ban. Young, Smith, Keller and the fourth booster were all disassociated from Alabama. Former assistant coaches Ronnie Cottrell and Ivy Williams were charged with unethical conduct, Cottrell for failing to disclose loans he had received from Young. Alabama, 2009 The violations: The NCAA found that Alabama athletes in several sports were using scholarship money to acquire textbooks for classes in which they were not enrolled and either giving them to friends and classmates or selling them back and pocketing the money, a practice that began several years earlier but extended into the first season under Nick Saban. The sanctions: Five football players, including starting center Antoine Caldwell, were suspended for four games during the 2008 season. Alabama was placed on three years' probation and forced to vacate 21 victories from the 2005-07 seasons.
Everyone cheats in college basketball. It's like doping in cycling. You honestly think Bama doesn't pay for recruits? It's common knowledge. Stephen A. even spoke on ESPN a couple years back about when he was a beat reporter in Philly he knew what the going rate for a 5 star kid was at any university then the rate for a 4 star, etc.. it happens everywhere. Always has. Certain schools are just allowed to do it moreso than others. Kinda like when Ole Miss under Freeze paid for kids. It wasn't like they were doing something others don't do. You're just rocking the boat if you do it at Ole Miss and you better dot your Is and cross your Ts to not get caught if you do.
#wastedeffort. Like @TerryP, if he admits any wrongdoing by Bama, the lives of his nephson and nieceter will be in danger.
