It's becoming clear UNC will beat everyone they run into by 10+ points. They are the only of the Final 16 to never trail. They are going to be the only ones to win by sub 30 if they keep playing well. The only ones to score 90+ both games, etc...
Scary thing is Carolina is basically on average with their offense. The toughest game on paper will be Washington State as they will run the shot clock down every single possession, and Carolina will be impatient. But if Deon Thompson contributes every game they will be near impossible to beat. This looks a lot like the Oakland and ISU games in '05.
I am getting real tired of all my UCLA friends bragging about how great their defense is and how they will shut down UNC in the title game. a. UCLA isn't making it there. b. UNC's defense is better than UCLA's statistically (stay with me here). UNC's FG % defense is better than UCLA's. UNC just plays their frantic pace, giving opponents more possessions, which thus brings up the scoring average.
You are absolutely correct. People need to look at adjusted possessions per game...those are the real stats. By possessions per game UNC is a top 20 defense.
when you talk to a UCLA fan, that's not luck. that's just a mark that you're the team of destiny. Lightening doesn't normally strike twice. Ask Duke.
