CBS previews college football season on "ncaa football preview show" on Saturday, Aug. 15 at Noon CDT

A quote from everyone's favorite Gary Danielson about LSU playing Florida for the BCS title...

Oh man, that would be something! I guess never say never (I never thought LSU would get into the BCS title game in 2007 after losing that second game).

If LSU only loses one game, and it's to Bama, and the LSU/Florida game turns out to be a closely fought "instant classic", like the one a couple of years ago when LSU converted all of those 4th downs, I guess I can sort of see how this scenario could actually become a reality - BUT... what about USC, Texas, and Oklahoma? If all 3 of them have one loss too, I can see the media and public trend towards giving one of them a shot, and even if we do beat Florida in the regular season, they'll be ranked ahead of us if they run the table including the SECCG.

We need a playoff, dammit! 8 teams at least...

So LSU jumps a 1 loss Bama team after Bama loses to Florida.

I think last year proved that this is impossible. Alabama was #1 in the country and undefeated in the conference championship game when they lose to florida. This last loss bumped them out of the NC running. To argue the opposite, Oklahoma in 2003 did lose their conference championship game and still go to the BCSNC. Had the winner of the Big XII that year been in the running, it could've been an all-Big XII BCSNC, but it still seems near impossible.

I think that Gary's scenario is that LSU's single loss is to an undefeated Bama team, and Bama then goes to the SECCG and loses to a Florida team that lost to LSU during the regular season. Bama drops out of the top 2, and LSU and Florida wind up in the top 2. It does seem far-fetched.

It is far fetched, but it could happen. In fact, it was close to happening in 2006. The top 4 in the final BCS poll were Ohio St, Florida, Michigan, and LSU. There was a possibility of seeing two different rematches, had just a couple things happened differently.

If that happens, Jefferson will have to play QB like he's a Jr., not a soph, Charles Scott will need to be in the top 5 in Heisman candidates, Terrance Tolliver will need to have a breakout season to take the pressure off LaFell (who I expect great things from anyhow), Holliday will have to return more punts for TDs than I'm expecting, and maybe Ruben Randall contributes significantly this season. Of course Chavis, Cooper and Hailey will have to produce a solid D. It could happen that everything that needs to come together does... :)

I don't think this is possible. If LSU were to beat Florida and LSU was to lose to Bama, that would mean LSU and Florida would play in the SEC Championship game. Only one team could win which means if LSU won the SEC Championship, Florida would have two loses to LSU and they are not going to be in the national title game against LSU with two losses already against LSU.

I think that the scenario assumes that Bama had no losses thereby putting them in the SECCG against a one loss UF. UF wins. One loss LSU vs UF rematch in MNC game.
