Those are fair points. Which is why I said they will screw up when they are older just like the two preceding retireing generations have. To counter I would point out that many millennials are miving in with mom and dad to alleviate their parents financial strain and share expenses. I have two different friends who live at home because they can rent the top story of their parents house and split groceries and utilities and save more money. Without those splits and rental income their parents would be homeless. It really is a strange economy.

Just count yourself lucky old man. You are going to get to retire. Inflation is going to eat my generation alive. The couple million you socked away will help you live comfortably after you stop working. The couple million I will sock away won't be nearly enough and I will work til the day I die. Sad fact. I doubt anyone under 35 gets to retire.

Maybe. But who knows? Inflation has not been a big issue for while, but if it comes back it will affect everyone, whippersnapper. Boomers who retire will live 20 to 30 years after retirement on fixed incomes, for the most part. Inflation will not spare them.

But history indicates that in every generation there will be people able to retire and others who are not. It is more personal circumstances than generational limits. We must stop this derailment.

I am on the wrong side of 50 (just barely) and as of right now, I don't think I'll be able to retire at all. I figure I'll need to keep working for as long as I can. Some of it boils down to my own choices; however, it is extremely difficult to meet modest expenses and to try save a little bit. I teach to supplement my fulltime job, and feel that I'll always be able to fall back on that. In any case, it sure ain't easy these days.

I am having to endure this with my 17 year old (stepson) his mom candies his ass every chance she gets. He has been given anything he has ever wanted with merely a mention of his desire for it. Drives me up the wall because I try to make him work for it, try to make him get a job, and eventually just lose the battle. One day they will look back and see that I was right.

Maybe they need to take guardianship of your niece and kick his lazy ass out?

I have a brother-in-law that sounds just like your brother. He's 42, lives at home, doesn't work, and brought along a (now) 15-year-old son (who has lived with his grandparents, who are also dysfunctional, since he was 2.) My other brother-in-law isn't much better off. He has a 3-year-old son that my younger daughter keeps begging for us to adopt because she thinks we could do a better job with him than his parents. We probably could, but I'm too old to want to chase a toddler. :D

I also told her that! She just wants a younger sibling, and since I'm too old to chase a toddler, I'm also too damned old to be giving birth, too.
