Not a huge basketball fan but I do like to watch march madness. Just wondering what are LSU chances of making the tournament? 17-12 is a big improvement over last year. If they win at least two games in the SEC tournament that should get them into the NCAA right?
Probably short of an SEC Tourney championship win we won't make it. If we can take the last two games and get a win or two in the SEC tourney we could make it to the NIT. The last two losses killed any chance in the NCAA short of divine intervention.
Take a look at the Hoops Tourney Watch Thread below... quick answer is probably not. Lost opportunities against Ole Miss and Tennessee in this past week probably knocked LSU out of NCAA contention. Going 18-12 with a win vs Auburn tomorrow, plus 2 wins in the SEC tournament, may not get it done. Although you can never say never. We need Miss St to continue their slide, and we need to examine how the Tigers look in the SECT and who they beat. Winning it all obviously gets them in. Beating a UK, UF, Vandy or Bama, with 20 wins, may get them some looks if the other "middle of the pack" teams, Miss St., Ole Miss, Tennessee, or Arkansas, disappoint.
Thanks for the updates guys! I guess a long shot is better than no shot. One of the nice things about basketball is so many teams have a chance of contention all the way up until the end of the season.
if we go 3-0 or 4-0 in our next 3-4 games (finishing 20-12 or 21-12), beating Auburn on the road and then going 2-0 or 3-0 in the SECT in the New Orleans Arena, we just might be back on track for the NCAAT (if we go 4-0 in the SECT, we are automatically in the NCAAT). follow the "(Official) Hoops Post-Season Tourney Watch Thread" for the latest updates (right now, we've given up hope on LSU's NCAA chances and are discussing LSU's chances at the NIT, which are good) http://forums.tigerfan.com/tigers-den/109698-official-hoops-post-season-tourney-watch-thread.html but just winning our next game vs Auburn on the road in the brand-new Auburn Arena is going to be tough. LSU is 1-5 in SEC road games, while Auburn is 15-3 at home this season. also, when we played Auburn earlier this season in the P-Mac (where we were 6-2 vs the SEC), Auburn took us to OT
They MUST win the tourney, no ifs ands or buts. Joe Linardi has NEVER mentioned LSU as a bubble team.
