Can't argue with any of that. The style of play of the Hornets and Paul have make him an MVP canidate. Also the Hornets would struggle more without CP than the Jazz without Williams IMO.

Picking a player this year simply because he hasn't won it before really defeats the whole intent of the award. Poor dirtbag, rapist Kobe hasn't won it before so we should give it to him this year. That's simply crap! Had he kept himself out of self-inflicted trouble, he may have previously won the award.

Rate the players based on their merits as they apply to the award. Based on that, there are 3-5 players who could be considered...two (Paul & Bryant) who are out in front...and one (Paul) who has meant more to his team than the others.

If a voter chooses Bryant over Paul because Kobe hasn't won it before and CP3 has many more opportunities, then that voter needs to be stripped of their voting priviledge. Otherwise, this becomes another stupid award like the Heisman.

If the award goes to Bryant because L.A. is a larger media market than N.O., then that's stupid as well.

Speaking of tonight, you failed to mention that Paul had nine assists. After one quarter tonight, Bryant had ZERO!

eliminating a player because you think he is a rapist dirtbag defeats the whole intent of the award, too.

I didn't say the process was right, but if you don't think people will look at it and say "Kobe never won one, it's time he gets one," then you're way naive.

Read it over and you'll see I didn't say that so don't try to change my point to fit your argument. I KNOW people will vote that way. That doesn't make it right. Knowing that the guy is a low class scumbag doesn't take away anything from his basketball talent.

Because one of the reasons the media says he was denied before was due to him missing time and being preoccupied during his rape case. I'm not interested in handing him this year's award to make up for his lost time several years ago.

The award should be based on this year and this year alone.

The NBA and public don't care about character. If they did, they wouldn't have named Isiah Thomas to their 50th Anniversary team. They selected him based on his playing talent. They didn't consider the fact that he embarrassed the league as a sexist, racist bigot.

or they didn't consider it because it hadn't happened yet when the team came out.

I am all with you in that it should be the best player this year and not the career achievement award. But I know a few voters and all I will say is be prepared for a Kobe Bryant trophy hoist unless something changes.

People just haven't watched the Hornets enough outside of our region.

They've only been on national tv, what? 4 times?

P.S. you should read up on the kobe case before you call him a rapist, btw...

An adulterer, no doubt, but a rapist is pushing it.

To be honest, I rarely keep up with MVP awards these days. I didn't enjoy the NBA during the JBA years. I don't care to see Notre Dame, the New York Yankees, Dallas Cowboys, or L.A. Lakers on tv every week.

For some reason this country is fascinated by "stars". We have to live vicariously through others and crave the dynasty. Forget the small market teams...forget the little guys who give 100% each game. We tend to favor the idiots and even have cute little names for them like "T.O.".

I hope Chris Paul wins the award not because I'm a Hornets fan but because I believe he edged out Kobe Bryant. Do I think he'll win it?...NO, because I think people will select Bryant for the wrong reasons.

If so, it can be another meaningless award like the AP trophy or the Heisman.

    BTW...clair and bhelm,

If the Hornets can't win it all, I'll be pulling for the Rockets, Jazz, and Spurs. There is no way in Hell I'm pulling for the Lakers or Celtics!

I have a feeling you'll never be a Rockets fan.... b/c we most likely will be out before the Hornets. :yelwink2:

But hey, I can respect that. I already told B-Helm that once Houston loses, I'll be rollin' with the Jazz. I like the way they play.
