...is officially sh*t. All the "stars" of the league are all puss*es by not entering and making it exciting to watch. No one wants to lose anymore. Reminds me of Mayweather/Pacquiao. No one wants to lose.
LeBron is the biggest one of them all. He says he'll do it if there's a winner-take-all prize? Really LeBron? You don't have enough money already? If you're gonna use an excuse at least use a good one. Even Kevin Durant said that LBJ, Wade, Rose and Westbrook should do it next year. If the players aren't excited about the dunk contest then why should the fans be? Paul George got robbed pretty badly IMO. I have NO idea how Jeremy Evans won. He failed that first dunk so hard so many times. Granted it was a ridiculous dunk, but it's really not that impressive to attempt something that you can only do once in a blue moon. The rest of his dunks just weren't impressive or original
The "Tron" dunk was awesome and unique and the sticker reverse dunk was unique too. He had the best 3 dunks out of all the contestants. Jeremy Evans first dunk was one of the worst I've ever seen in a dunk contest and same with Derrick Williams' last one. Budinger was consistent but he wasn't spectacular. George wasn't amazing but I still think he was a lot better than the field.
I didn't have that high of expectations for this year's dunk contest but thought it was somewhat entertaining. There were some good dunks and still some originality, which would seem impossible after all of these years. I don't really have a problem with Lebron dodging the contest. He seems to be more of an "in game" dunker and I don't see how he could possibly live up to the expectations of a dunk contest. If I were him, I'd be thinking "I need to devote all of my time to winning that first ring and other fluff like dunk contests can't get in the way."
Do you really think Lebron could "skip" the All-Star game without any known injury? I think it's basically required that he play, unlike the dunk contest. I really like watching Lebron play although don't consider myself a "fan" or a "hater" of him. Everyone overlooks his passing skills yet bashes him because he's not the best player to ever play the game. Some of the criticism is valid but going on and on (Reggie Miller) about the dunk contest just seems over the top. I am a bit of a Kobe "hater" but not because of his game or accomplishments. It's truly incredible that he's still playing at this level and has mostly lived up to Jordan comparisons. One of my friends mentioned recently that the highest scoring average for a guard in his 16th (or whatever season Kobe is currently in) is 10 points/game. I think it's safe to say that Kobe will exceed that amount this year.
It wouldn't be such a big deal if he didn't say he was gonna do it every year and then come up with lame excuses as to why he doesn't. He is a great in-game power dunker but if your head can get up to the rim, you should be in the dunk contest.
Didn't realize he says he'll do it every year but then backs out. If true, then he deserves to be called out.
