The fact is that it's the government that is tasked with the job. That's not my choice.

Read my response you sniveling punk. You have no idea what a phucking conservative is.

Not the point. It is what it is. The Fed has the job so I am forced to depend on them to do it right. They can't and they are not, but WTF am I supposed to do about it? You're confusing what's desirable with what is.

You posted above that I would think different about airlines protecting their own assets if I flew over 100k miles a year.

I simply disagreed and told you who I think would do a better job.

And, you added that this somehow brought my conservative politics into question.

    Read Red's post.

Also limiting govt to govt functions is a conservative approach. Giving up freedoms in the name of "safety" is a neo-con approach.

Negative. The FAA set rules, but those rules were heavily influenced by airlines. It was the airlines who were in charge of and responsible for screening. In most locations the airlines paid 3rd parties to handle the screening, but in a few locations the airline employees themselves provided the actual screening. The airlines were then responsible for auditing and testing the screeners who provided security for their aircraft.

Disagree: An airline that does the right thing and protects its property with good screening and security would inconvenience passengers, and thus lose travelers and revenue. An airline ignoring security would NOT INCONVENIENCE passengers (until they killed some) and would gain revenue. If you don't believe this, look how slack airlines are on enforcing carry on stuff. Most folks stuff would never fit in that little bin.

"Everyone" would be fine waltzing right through security and boarding with no hassle until a bomb, then the outcry would occur. Meanwhile, the airline that screened and inconvenience passengers would be out of business.

This is how the real world works. Why, because 1/2 the people have less than average intelligence, and some of those with greater than average are not all that sharp, either.

It is kinda why we have speed limits since too many people are too stupid to self regulate.

Oh, and by the way, The government is charged with PROTECTING THE PUBLIC, like it or not, as well as regulating interstate commerce.

You need to realize, as soon as the word "public" comes into play, you can insert "government" too. I wish this was not the way it is, and was unnecessary, but......
