NFIP Reauthorization Guidance The NFIP’s authorization has expired – March 28, 2010 – at midnight. Congress did not act to extend the NFIP’s authorization before the deadline, so the Program will not be allowed to operate and you are to be guided by Bulletin W-09068, issued October 27, 2009, and titled “Recommendations/Guidance for Possible NFIP Authority Lapse and Hiatus" (PDF) http://bsa.nfipstat.com/wyobull/w-09068.pdf. NFIP authorization provisions are contained in HR 4851, which is now slated for debate within the Senate. The office of Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid stated that if the Senate is unable to act on the bill before the NFIP expires, the Program will ultimately be re-authorized retroactively to March 28, 2010. A new bulletin will be posted when the status changes.
