Yep ... they throw more on first downs than we do. In the balance, however, there's not much difference when you consider all downs. Bama 58/42 run/pass LSU 66/34 run/pass And while you guys are more efficient on first downs .. .LSU hands down has the higher pass rating. 166 to 144. BUT ... all these stats are meaningless in end. The one's that count are the ones in the game. .. and really the only one that has meaning in the game ... is the SCORE Stat.
Sounds pretty predictable to me. I'm not worried about defending the pass, not at all. On another note, I have to applaud our posters here. We've come a long ways with tolerance for visiting posters. I think it's good to allow them a tee tiny bit of latitude to do some chest beating as long as it's accompanied by some kind of "factual" data or interpretation thereof. Just thought I'd add my .02 on that because Tusk's "think Bama" statement tickled me.
My biggest concern is giving up the big play. We haven't played a dual big threat play opponent like 'Bama. If (I know; all if's are big) we can win field position and avoid the big play then I think we tilt the advantage slightly in our direction.
I am worried about the fact that I have ran out of Zapp's. Finding in Denver is the hard part, beating bama is the easy part.
Dual Big Threat Play? Passing & Rushing? or Offense & Defense? As long as we spy TR, we will be fine. AJ isnt going to be as successful as either Darron Thomas or Geno Smith was.
There are a couple things I would like to point out, in 2010 Bama had 9 new starters on Defense. And on the reverses and fakes it was outside contain that failed with inexperienced linebackers and corners. Not saying those weren't great calls because they were. I imagine what every coach has figured out is to play safe when facing your kicking game. Also want to point out that Lsu and Bama have faced the same two teams, Florida and Ut. With Alabama giving up the least amount of rushing to both teams, though the ut game was close(94 Bama 111 lsu). I have no idea why Florida was able to put as many yards on your d as they did. I think mainly it was because they were in shock when their qb went down vs Bama and they had no game plan for anything else.Whereas they had a week to prepare a little more for you guys. The difference between ut and florida is their types of running backs. Florida has speedy little ones and Ut is more of physical run in between the tackles type. Which is more of what Bama has. Though your D handled the Oregon Rb who I define as little and speedy but I think au's speedy Rb did gain some yards on you(3 rushes for 32 yards= 10.7 yrds per carry). It may be more of a formation or offense run type of thing than the actual type of running backs used. I think the teams are so close we are just nit picking anyway. Its going to be a tough hard fought game. I don't think there is going to be a blowout either way.
For the same reasons that West Virginia was able to post so many yards against LSU. The LSU kicking game gave them very long fields to cross. And Chavis defenses bend but don't break and give up big plays. Scoring defense is what is vital, not yardage given up.
Alabama scoring defense, 6.88 ppg (1) LSU scoring defense, 11.5 ppg (3) And we don't mind going the long way.
Keep in mind that we completely shut down Demps and Rainey... Two of the fastest RB's in the nation... Courtney Upshaw will be responsible for the outside running, speed attempts.
