RBs vs. LBs. LSU's RBs vs. Bama's LBs LSU's runningbacks are in the 225 or smaller range (who knows about Hilliard). Bama's LBs are all in the 240-260 range. Bama's RBs vs. LSU's LBs Bama's runningbacks that are actually used are 225+. LSU's LBs are all 220 or smaller. Obviously, the weights may be off... who knows how much coaches lie? But based on these numbers LSU is at a definite size disadvantage in the running game. The way that LSU can overcome this disadvantage is SPEED. If Ford and McGee get more touches against Bama than they have over the last few weeks, I think LSU will do much better than with Ware and Hilliard. This is where depth comes in. Had LSU stuck with one or two runnngbacks only throughout the season, they would be limited in their options. Just my two cents.
NOPE .. Speed is not the answer .. unless you are talking about Ware and Hilliard gathering up speed before they plunge into the hole. LSU just needs to play the same run game they've played all along. 4-6 yards a pop. Their LB's size doesn't matter! ... especailly behind running behind our big O-Line. Sure they'll tackle Ware and Hilliard ... we won't break any big runs. BUT THEN .. we never do. Hell Ware is a gluton for punishment, ..if no one is tackling him .. he'll go find someone to hit! All I have to say is ... Rainey and Demps!! Lots of Speed, but absolutely no beef. We aren't going to beat Bama by going with speed. We're going to pound and pound and pound and pound and ......
... against little speedsters like Rainey and Demps. HENCE ... why I say .. no speed, just do what we've been doing.
What are you saying? That LSU will rush less than 10 times during the game?? Situational stats show differences between similar Alabama, LSU offenses | al.com (LSU 4.6 yds per carry)
I mean really .... After seeing Hilliard get some snap time this past weekend ... don't think for a minute that CLM won't pull him out of the bag if he needs to. Hilliard ... 5' 11" ... 240 lbs ... ave 6.5 yrds per carry. Ain't no 260 lb LB gonna step up and crush a 240 lb back who gets a running start at ya. .... physics is physics ... and that's just that.
Who cares how much their LB's weigh & what their stats are! They've played poor running teams. None of their opponents have had the size/talent we have on O-line (their all healthy for this game) & will the emergence of Hilliard just in time! We're gonna play small ball by pounding it. If we don't get 1st downs right away, it's ok, Wing will pin them back in their own territory & we just have to play D. We'll have success enough times to get scores. We just have to stick with what we do best & take our shots down field when they stack the box. Their secondary can't cover ODB & Randle man to man all game long.
