18 was just another number until a. Mauck hand-picked a successor to wear it, and b. Hester played himself into folk hero-status while wearing it. It was at that point that it became a "tradition" to pass it on to a deserving senior. Yes, senior; Dickson did not wear it as a junior.
It usually goes to an experienced leader. My guess would be Reid or Shepard. Considering that the current #18 is a safety, I would give the edge to Reid.
first, good question. second, Shep gets my vote.....team guy from the day he set foot on campus and seems to be a team leader as well.
I beg to differ mctiger, Dickson did wear #18 his junior year. Here's some proof: TigerRag - TR TV: Dickson Continues the Tradition of No. 18
That's exactly how I feel about it. Time just flashes by. Even though his potential as a QB/WR leaves quite a lot to be desired, I would never hesitate to recruit him again. Like you said, RS is nothing but a good team player. I wish he could somehow manage to make it to the next level.
I say give it to Shep. 4 year guy who changed positions, a general good guy overall and one who represents LSU any chance he gets. Other nominees: Eric Reid, Brad Wing, or the legacy picks -- Travis Dickson, or Gunner Kiel*. *-Indiana magic baby
