They said the same thing about the 2005 Cotton Bowl when we played Texas Tech. All we heard was how the high octane offense would run us off the field. They scored 10 pts the entire game. Good defenses are like good pitching in baseball. Good pitching more times than not will beat good hitting. Don't get caught up in the neon lights of the Big 12. Defense still wins championships.
Yep. Ask Missouri how important a good defense is......they got squashed like we did at Florida. (worse, actually. Their scores were in garbage time.) Texas looks awesome. :geaux:
This is why the SEC performs so well during bowl games. Our offenses play against tough defenses damn near every week. Sure we don't have the qb's like the Big 12 does but I think it is also fair to say that the Big 12 doesn't have the defenses the SEC does. Oh, and watch out for the Ole Sis DL. They are BIG and Skrawng. But they play man to man and crossing patterns can bring big plays. We burnt them several times with them yesterday.
1. Texas 2. Penn State 3. Alabama 4. Florida 5 Oklahoma 6. Oklahoma State 7. USC 8. Texas Tech 9. Ohio State 10. Georgia 11. LSU 12. TCU 13. Bosie State 14. Utah 15. South Florida
1. Texas 2. Alabama 3. Florida 4. Oklahoma 5. Penn State 6. LSU 7. USC 8. Ohio State 9. Oklahoma State 10. Georgia 11. Texas Tech This is based on what teams have done on the field this year. Bama may lose to OU LSU USC of OSU on a nuetral field but to this point they have played like a better team by beating good football teams. As for 12-15 i dont care about Big East WAC MAC teams enough to even rank them. How bad is the ACC not one team even close to the top 11.
small problem its 2008 now. but i think Tech is over rated. yes bama would probably beat them. but the big 12 is better than you think.
On Sunday, when the BCS standings were being announced, Barry Switzer pointed out that Texas is the only Big 12 team with a championship level defense. Oklahoma State and TT are living on not having run up against a top D yet.
Ask most coaches what wins championships. The year has nothing to do with it. Texas proved my point against Mizzoo. Texas is the 39th ranked D in the country and embarrassed Mizzoo. The Big 12 is good but they're "good" in a different way than the SEC. The SEC is good in a "defensive way" and the Big 12 is good in an "offensive way". Which "good" would you want to take to that fight?
