Makes it hard to "keep up" when you're all over the place. No offense, but most of your points are invalid.
Just because you say it doesn't make it so. You said the warehosue disagreed with me. That didn't pan out to be true. So you picked out one sentence in a post and that didn't pan out to be ture. So now you say most of my points ar invalid, but you just quit coming up with examples of invalid.
Would you not agree that "history" includes last year, the year before, the year before that, and every year LSU football has been around? If so, then when you say our "history" is not top 10, that is where the warehouse disagrees. Keep in mind that history includes the last 6 years.
My top 10, based on recent years and the short term future: 1. USCw -- NATIONAL contender year in, year out. Huge recruiting base, excellent coach.....Can't argue w/ their success over the last 5-6 seasons and should be very strong in the upcoming years. 2. Ohio State -- Tressel may be the best coach in college football, and if not the best, definitely the classiest. Add in their winning pct over the last decade and I think it would be hard not to have them near the top of your list. 3. Florida -- The Gators always seem to be competing for an SEC title, and with the addition of Meyer as a coach/recruiter, I can't see them faltering any time soon. 4. Oklahoma -- Bob Stoops always fields an excellent team. Great athletes, well coached, strong fan base....upside looks strong for OU. 5. LSU -- Definitely one of the strongest programs over the last few years. Great recruiting base and stability at HC should keep us competing in the upcoming years. 6. Texas -- for all the knocks on Mack Brown, its hard to argue against the Longhorns success. Their recruitng base may be the best in the nation, although they do have to fight for some prized recuits every season. Should always field a quality team. 7. Virginia Tech -- Once again, how do you argue against the success Beamer has had during his tenure there?? IMO, you can't. 8. Georgia -- Great athletes, coach, and recruiting. Great record in recent years, and look strong for the future. 9. Michigan -- Great program, great winning pct. Uncertainty at coach hurts them, but with the lack of competition, outside of Ohio St., I feel confident that they will cotinue to roll up victories. 10. West Virginia -- not necessarily a team w/ a great tradition, but great success in recent years. Rodriguez seems to be an excellent coach, and in a weak conference I expect them to continue their success. Also receiving votes: --Miami-- strong start at the beginning of the decade, lack of success in recent years leaves room for concern. --Florida St-- great run for a LONG time, but like Miami, the last few seasons leave a lot to be desired if you're an FSU fan. --Auburn-- Love him, or hate him, Tubby always puts a competitive team out there. --Boise St.-- Yeah, I said it, lol. Horrible strength of schedule, but they continue to win. Add in a victory over the Sooners, and I think they at least belong in the conversation. --Tennessee-- Great tradition, and even in down years they seem to be an above average team. On the rise: --Alabama-- all the resources for winning are there, throw in uke: Saban uke: and I think they'll be competing in the SEC very soon --Illinois-- ol' Zook looks like he may have walked into a goldmine. The Big 10 has been down in recent years, and if he can shore up that Chicago recruiting base, especially now w/ all the ill will towards Notre Dame, he may be able to compete for some Big 10 titles very soon. --Arkansas-- Great facilities, and a fan base w/ a strong desire to win. I think the Petrino hire could potentially be HUGE for this program. The only thing I see holding them back is their relatively small recruiting base. Hopefully Miles will keep them out of La. --Pittsburgh-- No, not really, but thanks again for beating West Virginia!!! :geauxtige
Mine would be: 1. USC --I feel sick doing it, but I can't deny they are just in a great situation right now. 2. Florida --Pisses me off to do it, but I can't deny they are just in a great situation right now. 3. Texas --Ok, you the 'Horns talent with any coach from most everyone on this list, and Texas wins, or at least plays, in 2-3 BCS title games. 4. LSU --Our biggest weakness is having longevity with successful coaches. You get a coach to guarantee he won't leave--let alone be in "job searching" talks and we'll be even more stable. 5. tOSU --If they get blown out by another SEC team in the title game, and you can earmark them for "exposed". 6. Michigan --once their coaching search fiasco is over, and should they get a solid guy, their program should rebound from getting their head's kicked in by tOSU and every other national power they play. 7. Auburn --they have solid fascilities...great location to multiple hot-spot recruiting beds and lower admission standards than UGA. 8. Virginia Tech --Strong fanbase. Solid coaching. They're probably one of the most consistant programs over the past 10 seasons. 9. 'Bama --Saban will get them going eventually, but it'll forever be an uphill battle to defeat LSU and Auburn each year as both of those schools continue to have a leg up on them 10. Nebraska --If Pelini can return the "blackshirt defense" to Lincoln, they have the fascilities, the support and the money to return to the Osborne days at Nebraska.
AB, you have a great looking list, but not including OU kinda invalidates it, especially with Nebraska showing up in your list. I assume you just forgot about them.
I thought it would be great to revisit this thread. I have revised my list as such: 1. USC 2. LSU 3. Ohio State 4. Oklahoma 5. Florida 6. Texas 7. Georgia 8. Auburn 9. Virginia Tech 10. Florida State (tie) Michigan I moved LSU from 4 to 2. This was based on 2 things: the biggest being we now have a head coach for long term. Secondly we are the only 2 time BCS champ and we are now securing out of state talent like Patrick Johnson. Also, I did move OSU ahead of OU. It's essentially a tie, but I put them ahead since they have been in 3 championship games in 6 years. OU getting embarrassed pretty much sealed the deal to drop them to 4. Again, this list is based on recent successes, the current state of affairs of said football program, their immediate potential for future successes, and the likelihood that the program will have longevity in terms of that success.
I have mixed feelings about any gloating over a football title won during WWII. I imagine things were subdued in college stadiums then, to say the least.
Dude...I can't believe you stuck OK in there, after they dropped a big stinky egg in their bowl game. I'd disagree with that one...quite frankly I think they're a bit overated! Everyone else on your list I tend to agree with. But Ok (in my opinion) should be somewhere around 10. Just for sake or argument.:hihi:
