Just got back from an awesome experience at Aggie stadium! Good group of fans right there. Anyway, my take on the game from what I have see and looked over. Some key points I want to touch on first. Big plays, so far most of our TD's are big plays, no matter how you want to analyze it, that is awesome. We are clearly on a pace to destroy the amount of big plays we had last year. The good thing about it is that our play makers are doing it for us. Check for the Tigers. Running game, I know some still think Vandy is possibly worse than a high school team, but for fans with a brain, it is VERY reassuring to lean on a running game when the pass just isn't working. Check for the Tigers. Finished the game strong even though a week offensive showing. This is very key for a number of reasons. One being that the Tigers need to get into the groove of 4 quarter FOOTBALL. I blame coaching for not keeping the intensity up and it shows they are working the issue. Check for the Tigers. Defense is awesome. While Vandy isnt that good on O, I can assure all that playing UNC and Vandy opposed to Juco teams is a plus because it gave LSU valuable experience in key areas that NEED work before the BIG games. Check for the Tigers. Improvement is clear is a number of areas on this team from week 1 - 2. One area remains to be fixed, QB. Fix it soon and LSU will have a TRUE shot at ATLANTA BABY!>>> On to other areas, QB: JJ was just bad that game. Love that he is a Tiger and will fight until the end, but I believe if JJ is going to get better, J Lee needs to take some of is starting time to push him. I think this will create good competition more so than what can be done in practice and if JJ is really the man, he will make the EFFORT to show it on the field in-between possessions of him and J Lee switching. With ALL reports coming out of practice that him and JJ where pretty close, there is no reason after a game like that, that JJ should play a entire game. He needs to know that his job is on the line. If that doesn't turn him around, nothing will.. I wish the best for the kid. On to other thoughts. Some people just need to chill. The SEC reigns supreme for the sole reason of being the best of the best. Our Argument for this has ALWAYS been every game in the SEC is a challenge. I don't care if its Vandy or UF, YOU show up to play because if you don't, you will get beat.. GREAT WIN LSU...
It is a great win. Some areas that needed improvement were made, particularly the defense. I know it was only Vandy, but to have six sacks and to hold your opponent to three points is no little feat. The only worrisome deal now is the QB situation. Looking at the numbers, this area went downhill from week one to week two. I expect to see Lee come in the game against Miss State. I also think that Miles will let JJ try to redeem himself, but unless he does a complete 180 it will look a lot like last night. Glad your Aggie game went well.
My take of the Vandy game: I thought the coaches had a great game plan. But unfortunately Jordan Jefferson had a pathetic night. His receivers could have helped him out some, they dropped some passes, but the ones they dropped would have been tough catches. Jordan just had a bad night. I will say the only thing I would have done differently would have been to bench Jefferson at halftime. Jefferson has to know that bad play will earn him a spot on the bench. It may not change him from being the starter. But if every other positioned player is sucking ass, they will get benched, why not our quarterback? Thank the sun god for Ridley, Blue, Murphy and the O line last night. Our running game was great. As far as the defense goes. WELCOME BACK LSU DEFENSE!!!!!!!! This is the kind of defense we have been waiting to see since Pelini left. This defense is great, and will keep us close in big games this year.
Nootch, I noticed the big plays too...I was eagerly awaiting them during the Vandy game. I hope Shepard makes some big ones this week on plays different from that handoff play so that opposing teams can'y gear up to stop that one play. Russell Shepard on a slant play like Lee threw, maybe? ...or... Shep in the wildcat, with Pat Pete in the backfield as a decoy so that when the defense is watching #7, Shep THROWS the ball to Ruben Randle on a crossing route. ...to win the Bama game !!!
