If it's already been said, I apologize. But just play another 15 minute quarter. If it's tied at the end, oh well. If you win by 3 after 5, 15 minute quarters, then good job.
Each team gets at least one possession like this. TeamA receives ball, moves down and settles for field goal. TeamA kicks off to TeamB. It is now sudden death. TeamB doesn't score, or scores a TD, game over. TeamB kicks a tying field goal, sudden death is in effect. Next team to score anything wins.
perhaps first possession in OT could be tied to something in the game instead of a coin flip. like the team that had the least penalties.
personally i like the sportsguys idea. If you win the toss and kick a FG in overtime the other team gets one possession and if they kick a FG it goes to sudden death. but if you score a TD on the opening drive then game over.
The current system is perfect. Regardless of who wins the coin toss, you must execute to win. The team that executes the best, wins. If you want a turn to play offense, you should earn it.
Nootch had it, and it is just that simple. You play an 8 minute period of football. There is time for both teams to have a possession. Maybe give them 1 TO apiece and and 1 challenge. Burn your TO you get no challenge.
Give each team the same amount of drives in OT. They could each start from the 20, 30, 40, 50 or wherever... Look at NCAA football... each team gets the same amount of drives in OT. Look at baseball... each team gets to take the plate in OT. The NFL needs to get with the program.
what he is saying is earn it on defense and special teams. Get you a kicker who can boom the ball out of the back of the endzone to avoid a special teams disaster and then stop em. If you can't you don't deserve to win. I don't know if agree with that or not though. However the coin toss winner only wins about 55% of the time.
