offense will come along as Lee gets more experience. I may be mistaken but I don't think a team has won the SEC with a freshman QB. The concern is the defense. I was hoping my feelings would have been wrong after watching the first few games but this defense and scheme suck and they shouldn't. We have great talent on the D. Sure we have some young guys but so do a whole lot of other teams out there and the are doing well. Not getting a D coordinator is the only decision Miles has made that I questioned. Now I know it was a mistake. The SEC is not a conference to try and figure out how to be a D coordinator. We should have gotten a proven coordinator. JMO
Don't leave the D line out of that either. Florida's lines played better than they have all year. LSU lines played worse than they have all year. I figured going in that this game would be a blowout determined by line play. Based on this seasons performances so far, I figured the odds were about 80% in favor of LSU. Scott would run for about 150 and open up the passsing game. Have to give credit to both Florida lines. They were dominant. and We just didn't look ready to play. It is just one game but I am very worried about what the next four or five weeks will bring. :geaux:
What struck me most about this game was the fact that LSU had 2 weeks to prepare for the Gators. Contrast that to the Gators trip to NW Arkansas last week. Typically, an extra week off translates into a much better prepared team and a much better devised game plan. My impression is that the LSU players probably took Florida a little for granted after the Florida loss to Ole Miss. You can never take a strong SEC team for granted. But alas, both SEC divisions are still very much up for grabs.
Most important stat is the 50+ points we gave up (irrespective of returned int) - we need a defensive coordinator! The offense will take care of itself with experience/adjustments. The problem is that a single, new d-coord would not be a quick fix. If you bring in a new personality with a potentially new system, it will take time for chemistry to develop, system implementation, etc. This is not a solution for THIS season, but needs to be done at some point. As expected, LSU made good adjustments on offense at halftime, came out with a controlled, time-consuming drive to cut the lead to 20-14, but kudos to FLA for the next two drives. IMO, this was what won them the game, not the initial lucky pass to Harvin, although it certainly gave them momemtum, and we were playing catch up the entire first half.
You hit the nail on the head with that one. The 51 points sting, of course, but the game was lost by the time that second 2nd half TD was scored by Florida. If we could've stopped Florida on their first possession of the 2nd half, they'd have been seriously back on their heels. We didn't do it then, nor on the next possession. After that, it was all downhill. The last two TD's came with less than 5 minutes to go in the game--when we were defeated in every sense of the word. That being said, I can't stand the 51 points, but it is what it is. Our season may hinge on the way we come out against SC next week. If we're flat again, we're in trouble. If we regroup, then we have a good chance to beat UGA at home the next week (provided, of course, that we decide to field an aggressive defense...)
LSU had no heart in this game. I saw no leaders on either side of the ball. We need someone who'll get fired up and pound his chest like Dorsey did.
We had a couple pounding their chest and acting like 1st team SEC players. Unfortunately, they were doing it with 2 minutes left in the game and after UF had hung 51 on 'em. o:
We were severely outcoached on both sides of the football, preparedness, and every other area of the game. The Defensive scheme was awful. We should have been in dime all game, but no our two headed mastermind decides to line Beckwith and McCray up one on one with Harvin the whole game. The offense was as predictable as ever with the exception of the last drive of the first half. The team never looked like they thought they could win. Flat, unispired, not ready to play. But it's just one game, and anyone expecting to go down there and get an easy win would be foolish, even if we did have a QB.
It was a tough call but Miles made the right decision. If you don't have discipline on a team, you have nothing. Yes, it hurt LSU. But players have to know what is expected of them both on and off the field.
4. Nothing on this forum is closed to discussion. 5. We were out-coached. That does not mean that UM is a better coach than LM; if just means that on this particular day he did a better job of preparing this team and had a better game plan.
