Only asking b/c you said you like these lists.... Chargers...6th overall? Norv Turner's Chargers??? The 4-4 team that just gave up 350 yards of rushing to a team with a rookie RB? A team with a basketcase for a QB? The freakin' Chargers?
Yes, it pained me. They have enough talent, but you got it on the Norv Turner distinction. And they're a VERY distant 6th. The AFC West is terrible, the East is worse, same for the North, and the South is solid. Not that any of that matters -- the AFC is really a two team race anyway, with possible spoilers in Pittsburgh. I can't honestly think any of the other teams have a shot.
No way you can put a Norv Turner led team that high. He will be responsible for the total destruction of a very talented team. I think the consensus this offseason was asking why the hell the Chargers went from Schittenheimer (guaranteed to get you to the playoffs but also guaranteeing you go one and out) to Turner (not only will I not get you there, it won't even be close). I too was enamored with Jville. But I have come to see the light. Their defense is WAY overrated. They are mediocre at best. In fact not much difference in talent between them and the Saints D. Their offense is unimaginative and one-dimensional (even with Gerrard).
Norv Turner is undoubtedly a clown. I have a hard time completely discounting a team with LDT, a competent QB, a couple receiving threats, solid o-line, and overall good defense. Hence, low ranking, but still ranked. One game does not a bad defense make. Stroud's absence hurts them a lot. I put their defense just behind Tennessee's, but their offense is more well-rounded. They're also solid on special teams. They're just the kind of team that can win a game they have no business winning. I would put the Titans there as well, except they have absolutely no chance of passing the ball right now. That's a pretty big issue.
the chargers just need to simply make the playoffs. it's the same thing like I was saying with Florida State this past week. Turner and Bowden are both really, really bad at preparing/motivating their teams. But when you have a big-time matchup, (playoffs for the Chargers or #2 team in the land for FSU) on the schedule, you don't need a coach to give the "big speech" for you. so if the Chargers simply get into the playoffs, they are someone that no one wants to play.
Well the Chargers will probably get into the playoffs only because they are in one of the worst divisions in football.
I'm sure you're just orgetting, but the Patriots destroyed the 'Bolts earlier this year... The Pats would love to have the sun-drenched Chargers make the long trip back to cold, wintery New England come playoff time. San Diego, with the de-evolution of Phillip Rivers, loss of critical assistant coaches and the shaky ownership that installed Norv, is starting to remind me of the old Lions that started and ended with Barry Sanders. Tennessee is more of the enigma. They played the Colts tough in a 2pt loss earlier this season. Jeff Fisher is a good coach. Vince Young is Vince Young. Lendale White is becoming one of the better NFL power backs. The defense can usually stop the run and make you one-dimensional....
I am pretty sure the Packers are 7-1. Anyways they are playing really well today and it will be interesting to see them play Dallas in a few weeks.
dominant teams don't lose to the Jets... sorry... (edit: I know by saying this, I now jinxed the Cowboys and they will now definitely lose on Thanksgiving to the Jets, but oh well) lol
