He can't really afford risk an injury at this point in LSU's season with Hatch already out. Not for 2 yards. We're just too thin.
Lee said as much after the game. Don't remember the exat wording, but he said he got to see some things from the sideline a think a little clearer. Taking him out after his pick 6 was also a good move. It gave him time to forget about it and not let it clutter his head on the next drive, causing more problems.
JL has to work out his vision errors, IE looking at the receiver the whole way. This is why he gets the picks. And to do that, I think letting Lee watch when his vision is shall we say.....less than stellar helps him focus again. He can let some of that pressure ease over to JJ who is capable and mobile. Maybe not as capable as Lee in the same aspects but he brings something to the table and if Lee can feed off that relief, then it might get us out of this season with only 3 losses. next year is another story. lefire:
Congratulations, great post! We have been in a bind at QB. It's fine to say toss RP, but we have to accept the consequences. The program may be better in the long run, if we run a disciplined program and I favor that, but no way we are better off this year. We'll just have to struggle through a growing pain with our RS Frosh QB. It is what it is. I agree with supporting JLee. He is our best option at QB. We've lost 3 games, all to top 10 teams. The SEC is tough, they show you no mercy. I've said before, I think we were too thin at QB. Crowton saw it and brought in Hatch to build up the numbers. Good move on his part, and I'm glad he did it. We lose RP, and now we're in a pickle. Jamarcus leaving early hurt a tad, but if we'd recruited better at QB the last 4 years, we should not have been in this position. The roots of the problem go back 4 years in recruiting, IMO. Where are all our Jr. and Sr. experienced QB's? Nowhere to be found. That's the problem! That's on Fisher, and Miles.
Respectfully disagree there. Hatch doesn't have a cannon, but he's much closer to a starting QB than JJ is based purely on maturity in the system and pt. Before his injury, I'd even say Hatch was a better runner. Zactly. :thumb:
I think Lee played ver well in the second half of that game. However, I still feel this is going to be his only season as our starter. He may still play some, but I think he is extremely one dimensional, and is even limited at that. If all we had to depend on him to do was throw the deep ball, he would be fine, unfortunately that isn't the case. I really see JJ taking the lead role next year with Lee playing the backup role, and even some gimmick stuff for Shepard. JJ didn't do anything that just jumps out at you in the stat book, but he had that Follow me to the endzone presence that the great ones have. Plus he is extremely good with his feet, which is almost a necessity in today's college game.
I'm sure Hatch is a nice guy, but he has a noodle arm that can barely throw anything past 15 yards (remember the UGA game). He can't run the option well because he rarely pitches it or he takes WAY too long to do so, and he is decent at scrambling because he has no throwing ability. He almost has to. When it comes to maturity, he may have the edge, but JJ has far more upside and big play ability.
No doubt. I was talking the recent past. Hatch is done playing QB at LSU. The stable is filling up with thoroughbreds and he's a mule. I still like his moxie, but he's about to become #3 on the depth chart next Spring.
