A few friends (age 30 to 34) and I are visiting Baton Rouge for the WVU game and need some advice from those in the know. What are the must-hit bars before and after the game? Where should we get a late breakfast? Thanks for any and all advice and I cannot wait to experience football on the bayou!
The answers you seek are here. Pay particular attention to the 5th post in the thread for the bars and, in particular, where to get that late night breakfast.
Thanks! Should have looked through the board a bit. Besides Tigerland, are there other areas with solid bar scenes?
I'm not going to be a ton of help there. I moved away from BR in 2001 and have just moved back to south La. I'm sure others will be along to help though. Good luck!
At the foot of the Perkins Road overpass you will find Georges, Ivar's, Duvics, Chelseas', Zee-Zee Gardens, Schlitz and Giggles, Parrains, and some trendy new sushi bar, while it lasts. The Caterie burned down and has not been rebuilt yet, unfortunately.
Cool - are there any bars between the Chimes and Tigerland? Thinking about doing an extended bar crawl pre-game. Only been to Baton Rouge once - was there for work for a night and only really checked out the Chimes.
not really too much as far as bars between The Chimes and Tigerland..they are far apart from each other (not within) walking distance. A better bet on gameday is The Chimes or Walk-On's, which is on the opposite side of the campus from The Chimes..tailgaiting is the name of the game in B.R. on gamedays, if you could find some good folks to hang with, that would be a great time!
I see...I will look for this Igloo Bar of which you type. What is the etiquette when it comes to visiting a tailgate? I had my first big tailgate experience last year in Texas and it was amazing. Us New Englanders are candy-asses when it comes to tailgating.
From what I understand, they're running a shuttle between LSU and Downtown. Somebody please correct me if I'm wrong. I think it's $10 round trip? Or am I totally hallucinating that? But what I would do, if you want a pretty good bar scene but don't want to drive to Perkins, is park Downtown, go to Roux House, Boudreaux and Thibodeaux's, The Office, Punchers, Red Star, Wine Loft, or Happy's..or hell, all of 'em, and then take your shuttle down to LSU and check out the gameday atmosphere. Red Star and Punchers aren't really my type of places, but to each his/her own. And then take the shuttle back Downtown after the game. The Downtown scene is at its liveliest post-game. Bulldog is another good place to check out off Perkins if you're a beer drinker. But as far as an actual pub crawl is concerned, Downtown or Perkins overpass would be your 2 best areas for that.
