this is why the whole "coach in waiting" thing is probably the stupidest new trend in sports. Because it means NOTHING.
Good fit for them. It will be interesting to see him make the transition from DC to head coach. I hope the aubies give him a chance.
his tie to Saban is interesting to me. Will he have the head's-up, because he knows Saban's defense, or will Nick have the head's-up, because he knows Will's tendencies?
Unless Muschamp can turn the tidal wave (no pun intended?) of recruiting around, it won't matter who knows what about the other team's tendancies. Kinda surprised by this hire. At LSU, Muschamp was just running Saban's defense. Even his experience at being his own DC is somewhat limited.
Not done yet, but as I learned in Jr. High, no doesn't always mean no. But sometimes it also doesn't mean yes.
Someone on another site said this TV station is famous for getting things wrong. We will know soon enough.
As usual who knows. But they broke Saban to Bama, the last search they followed. They have two of the highest sources within the Bama educational system. edit: was told they didnt speak to those people. then who knows where they got it from. less likely to be true now imo.
No truer words... Good deal to get more $ as a coordinator, but no reason not to leave. School should escrow the premium over the coord salary, and you forfeit it if you don't stay to become head coach. Basically deferred income. Course if you're making 500 base, and 400K escrow per year, and someone offers you 2 mill per year, you'd leave anyway. Oh well... I like Will. His youth, enerygy, can help him as a recruiter.
The saban recruiting thing is overrated, imo. Yes he can recruit well, and will compete for the best athletes in the area, but eventually his cupboard will get full. He will get 2-3 deep at positions and kids will still want to play right away. Eventually, they are going to look to other schools, and if a good coach is at Auburn, then they will go there. Florida is a great example. Look how good they are, how deep, and how many kids still leave the state. Many of them land here, and they are not scrubs. You see a big shift towards bama now, because there has been a great shift away from them for years. It's just balancing out and it will even out eventually.
