This is a horrible situation. I know Nicole was a second year (I believe) in medical school at LSU-New Orleans. I know there have been an enormous amount of prayers and thoughts coming out of LSUHSC for her and her family during this horrible experience. This is a nightmare scenario and my prayers are with her and her family.
that's just awful to hear. i'm definitely keeping that family in mind. i know it happened overseas, and that complicates things, but insurance companies can go to hell. seriously.
FYI: If you are traveling abroad look into travel insurance that covers medical expenses and medical evacuation. Be sure its with a reputable company. My dad was traveling on business in Venuzuela when he had a heart attack. It was one of the most stressful times of my life getting him out of there alive not to mention the expense of paying out of pocket medical while he as there in the hospital.
