As much as I didn't want it to be one, it was a hold. Now, I've seen worse not called (just watch any Bama game), but PJ did grab the dude's jersey.
I feel for PJ, he gets called for a head bob in the Bama game and the Ole Miss center does it and makes us jump offsides, and he does what Barrett Jones does on every play and gets called for a hold on the bomb to Wright.
So, now that we have a properly-executed passing game, do we still need to fire Stud? Discuss, gentlemen...
Maybe not fired, but I still want an offensive coordinator who either has no other responsibilities, or is also the QB coach. I also think the line would benefit from Stud's undivided attention, especially by his being on the sideline with them when the other team has the ball.
I've thought about this a lot lately, and I keep coming back to the same conclusion: yes, we still need an OC. Stud shows little to no flexibility. Basically, if what Stud WANTS to do isn't working, that's it. We're toast. We need a coordinator who isn't afraid to change things up when things aren't working. We need somone who can draw up a play in the sand that the opposing team has never seen before, to make them say WTF was that? Where did THAT come from? I'd like to stick with our identity, and I like the scheme that Stud runs, but his lack of adjustments has cost us at least one crystal trophy...maybe even two, if you considered where we'd be right now had we beaten Florida in October.
The fact that we still run the option with a statue pocket QB should answer your question. But AT is right, Stud is like that kid who's determined to pound that round peg in the square hole even after it didn't work the first few hundred times. Right now if we face a team with a sharp DC, stout secondary and decent run defense, we're still going to have problems scoring because there's a lack of adjustments in the playcalling.
Our offense had a lot more problems than scheme against Florida. That was the game where our receivers couldn't catch a cold, and that was one week before our freshmen saved our offensive line.
I am not entirely convinced Stud is even calling the game. With the o-line in ICU it was prolly best he addressed that issue alone. Krags did not start the season with his reading glasses and a head set. He has em now with a play chart that is on frequent flyer miles. Just an observation. Fire Stud? Well, I think he did a great job getting young linemen ready for the thick of the SEC, so his old job should still be there...but we need a new OC.
