Yep, and I had to shake my head at the conversation about his game going on in another thread. Bottom line, he's a great player, maybe the greatest LSU's ever had, but its not unfair to point out that those 2 fumbles could have been very costly.
19/30 passes to 7 receives (3WR, 2 RB, 1 FB, and 1 TE) and no one had more than 4. With no INT. Danny is rusty and he'll get better but that's a good first start.
Say what you want about JJ, and everyone has, but that was as good a ball as a QB can throw. A strike 20 yards down field to a 4.4 guy running a crossing route at full speed, and he got drilled as he released it.
i think they said he had 147 and with his 2 tds thats a hell of a game despite the 2 fumbles. but the fumbles turned the game around imo. les' plan would have worked because turnovers cant be known. his 147 can be. but there is a mentality that les needs to fix when we have a team on the ropes. like the first half. put this team out its misery. miss st was ready to be had. but the 2h starts and for a myriad of reasons they hang on. part of this is lsu's not used to winning and winning big. and knowing how to put a fucking mullen team out its misery. we need to get to that point before we have any chance of sniffing a championship. it really sucks these 3 and 4 yr guys will have dick to show for their LSU careers. For that, Im fully blaming miles. this mindset has to change. etling is our first step out of this shit hole way of playing not to lose. but we are still stuck there til proven otherwise.
Hope the young bucks are taking note of Etling's success and are working in that vein. Harris as well, for that matter. Can't take the bullshit QB play.
He got a little too cute on that last drive of the 1st half. Looked like he was committed to making sure MSU would have no time left and ended up having to settle for 3, when 7 could have been a nail in the coffin. 2nd half....been discussing this for a few pages now. MSU had some success on the ground, and with great punting, kept us starting inside the 20 about every drive. Couple of fumbles, a couple of drive-killing penalties, and all of a sudden we're looking a 0 on the scoreboard for the final 30. But it wasn't because Miles turned turtle and tried to sit on a 20-point lead for the whole half. The play calling was much more aggressive than we've seen in similar circumstances over the last few years. I get skepticism, but I was encouraged.
i fully agree. but les had his shot. he should have finished them and didnt. it carries over and so does this mentality. its like winning. you learn how to win. you also have to learn how to finish and finish strong especially against lesser teams. les doesnt know how. his teams reflect that.
its not focus as its more sharing the mentality of the hc. even if he didnt crawl into a shell the 2h. hes going to have to show confidence in them first before it becomes who the team is. tonight was the first step. it will take time. but les must keep moving forward to break his old habits and shitty tendencies. rome wasnt built in a day. neither will les' shitty thinking.
