i wonder if ER realizes that his son may NOT be the best on a collegiate level. anything is possible. i feel bad saying this, but i one time had a mutt that could work cattle better than a pure bred. just an analogy, or something... i didn't go to kollege
I can see Randle's dad becoming a huge headache and nightmare. This dude has already used up his 15 minutes. IF Miles pulled Benton's scholly because Randle gave an ultimatum then Miles f-ked up. I don't care how good a recruit is, you absolutely just cannot allow a recruit or parent to dictate your program. You tell recruit and parents that he has a scholarship offer to the best football program in the country, and they can take it or leave it. Now, maybe Miles wasn't as confident in Benton because of the Auburn visit and didn't feel 100% that Benton would sign. Then I can sort of understand what happened.
Coming to LSU is a great opportunity for recruits, but getting the recruits is a boon for LSU as well. It is a two way street. We obviously wanted Randle pretty badly. I think being above board with recruits and letting them know who we're recruiting is good for us in the long term. Too bad Randle wanted to base his decision on what other recruits did, especially considering that we really wanted more than 1 WR, but I think we should allow recruits that right.
im inclined to believe he didnt think benton would qualify again. but im still disappointed that he did what he did, and angry he was put in that position. seems like it was open and known given benton first signed two years ago. the last minute bs that er pulled was inexcusable. seems to me er would rather clear the way for rr rather than make him man up and earn the spot. all the bs about wanting was best for benton is just that, pure bs. er is the football version of a stage mother. that said, i hope now that there is a loi miles tells er to step back and stfu. if he doesnt like decisions he can pull his son, let him sit out a year, and be restricted to what schools he can transfer to. i hear they might have an opening on the jacksonville state squad. my basic stance on er. f' him.
Don't like seeing CLM cave on this one, but remember he's dealt with tougher parents before. This father isn't even a Haitian voodoo doctor.
I think some of you are making more out of this than there is. It goes on every season. This was no different. Kids back out of commitments and coaches make tough decisions on who to offer and who to cut lose. I don't think Benton is complaining. Why should we care? We have no stake in this other than watching a damn game.
I agree. I also feel that once Benton visited AU, all bets were off. There is an awful lot of uninformed indignation here.
I concur. This one obviously got the most attention because of the high-profile player involved, and the late and well-publicized comments by his pops. Further, Benton could have honored his original commitment to LSU by actually getting qualified.
One thing to keep in mind (and it should make you feel better about Miles' ability to keep a hold of player attitudes) is remember when RP was mouthing off prior to enrolling at LSU? All RP's talk about how HE was going to win the Heisman....about how HE was brought in because it was obvious the staff didn't have much confidence in JR and Flynn.... All the while, Miles stayed quiet. Nothing. RP got on campus and *BOOM* Miles put a sock in his mouth and said he was NOT going to talk to the media. Until they set foot on campus, and as a student at LSU, Miles really has NO control over them; they can talk all they want. ...but once they are LSU students, their a$$es are Miles'.
