No, with Jefferson out we must bring Metteneberger along quicker. He will see time in every game. An injury to Lee could ruin the season if Mettenberger isn't ready. Junior college players coming to a BCS team are expected to be able to start. Fortunately we have the luxury of not having to start Mettenberger until he's ready. Lee understands this better than anyone. You don't go out and sign the top junior college prospect and sit him on the bench. No sir. You don't let a guy who threw 32 touchdowns last year and took his team to the national championship sit on the bench. He may not be able to manage a complex offense yet, but he knows enough football for a drive or two every half. We've got future NFL receivers just waiting on a future NFL arm that can get them the ball. I think this is Lee's season, but the Reverend Doctor Mettenberger will see the field early and often. Perhaps before the half in Oregon, whether we are ahead or behind. He will get some experience and hopefully before the meat of the SEC schedule comes around, will be able to go in a save a game or a season if Lee goes down. And next year he will be ready to explode.
I do hope that we play Mett as part of the gameplan next week, instead of just as a desperation move. However, knowing Miles, he will make much in the media of playing Mett, if only to give Oregon something more to think about. He loves playing that game.
......and to add to that, Les is not afraid of using freshman; Magee and Odell comes to mind for the offense. Not sure about how ready is Landry.
