With the possible exception of '06.

I'll take steady intelligent Mauck over brainless lazy Russell.

I'll take our running backs too (we had the "good" Justin Vincent and "good" Ally Broussard) as well as Addai and Carey.

And if someone told you the 03 defense was the best ever at LSU, you wouldn't scoff at it.

Well, the thread was "most talented". I'm certainly not alone in thinking 2006 was one of the most talented teams in LSU history.

I'd take Mauck/Flynn over Russell too...but Russell was more talented than either/both.

'03 was easily the better 'team'.

The good thing about this team, they return a bunch of talent returning for 2012.

06 was super talented no doubt

and had we switched over from the washed up pair of Broussard/Vincent to the new kids (Hester/Scott) by the time the Auburn game came around, we might have won that game and who knows what from there

I agree that there were a ton of big name players in both '03 and '06, but when I look at every single position and their athleticism I think this group is right there. The depth at EVERY position is what really catches my eye for sure. There is literally no drop off when our "2nd team" is in the game.

AtlantaBengal, I agree the accomplished part is yet to come. However, when I see Lee on the field and Mett on the sidelines and an extremely athletic WR core I have to think we are completely stacked and set up for success for years to come. Combine that with Ware, Ford, and Blue at back and I think we will continue to move the ball at will.

This offens still has something to prove to be as good as the 07 team. They may be before it's over. The 07 team had a lot of heart. Going for it five times on 4th down aginst fl showed the heart they had. This team hasn't been tested yet. They haven't had to come back to win in the last minute yet. That shows how good they are but also leaves questions as to how they will handle playing from behind. This defense does rank up there with the best. They are as good as the 07 team but still have to prove they are as good as the 03 team. The test are coming. Fl, au, bama and arky games will decide how good this team really is. There is no doubt we are better than last year. If we run the table and go undefeated, this will be the best and a testament to the ability of clm to both recruit and coach.

03 was the best, but this team is deeper in talent.

We have an amazing number of sophomores and redshirt frosh contributing.

Greatest talent doesn't always transfer to being the greatest team. I would say its the number one factor for sure but you have the things like coaching, schedule, team chemistry and really luck.
I would say our 2006 team might have been the most talented but came up short at tough road games at Auburn and Florida. Florida was the national champions that year and Auburn was 11-2.
This years team has a special thing to it though, young with a senior leader.
