agreed from day one i thought they should rebuild them exactly as before. the wtc 7 site has been rebuilt and has been awesome for years. that it takes so long to rebuild the rest is an abomination.
I think martin pretty well covered it, but an issue of liberty is exactly what it is. People are free to say and practice what they want here. Neither you nor I have get to shut them up or say when or where they can excercise their rights. The whole purpose of freedom of speech is to protect the stuff we hate. The stuff we accept does not need protection.
of course. this is why the goofy patriotic bikers coalition or whatever is so good. they dont shut anyone up, they just drown them out so that are a tiny un-hearable percentage of people at those funerals.
then does the issue in both situations become how to balance liberty with what is right? for instance with the protesters, i think some municipalities are passing laws that you cannot protest within a certain distance of a funeral or funeral procession. this gives the wbc jackasses the right to protest, but offers a bit of a shield of families of the dead. so what measures can be taken in this situation to balance the two? or is there a way?
true. also i am not convinced that this is about the muslims being disrespectful. maybe these are some friendly muslims (they exist by the millions) just trying awkwardly to get along. who knows, i cant read minds, but it isnt really a question we need to ask in terms of whether to allow it. we should allow it even if they put up signs that honor mohammad atta.
pass a law that no building can be used for the purpose of religion, any religion, within 2 square miles of ground zero.
