He makes the cut of 15 in his second year of eligibility. Some amazing talent among this group, including Jerome Bettis, Michael Strahan, Derrick Brooks, Tim Brown, Marvin Harrison, Kevin Greene, and 49ers owner Eddie DeBartolo. But Morton has one ridiculous stat that should move him to the top of the list: the only player in NFL history to retire as the all-time leading scorer for 2 different franchises.
Do they go in with certain teams, like baseball players? If so, will he go in as a Saint or Falcon? I remember seeing a sign at the dome in his first game back with the Falcons that said 'What were you snortin' when you got rid of Morton'? As conservative as the More/Carl Smith offense was in those days, he was definitely the offensive MVP.
@fanatic At the football HoF, the players are honored with a bust and a plaque listing their teams and accomplishments. There's nothing that identifies them with any one team in particular.
Even though he played for the FAILcons, like Bobby Hebert, I'll always consider him a Saint. Here's hoping he makes it.
Same here. Weren't both released by the Saints? If so, I don't blame them for going with the Falcons.
As much as I love Morton too, you do all realize that he has zero chance of being elected this year, don't you?
Loved him. THAT is when I stopped watching to cock suckers- when they traded him. It became clear, more than ever, that they weren't interested in winning. I told people this week/today that, if/had they won today I would've watched the remainder of the season. Not about to let them phuckers get my blood pressure worked up that easy. They ruined my weekend WAY too many times over the years.
There's 3 kickers in the HOF. 3. 2 of the were also position players. The most recent induction of a kicker was '91. There have been a number of kickers to retire since then that an argument could be made that they are as deserving as Mort. None came close. Only a maximum of 5 regular nominees can make it. There's not 5 of those other candidates that anyone with a vote will put Morton Andersen ahead of. Lastly, I know a voter who's very influential in the process. He said he doesn't think it will happen this year. I trust him. I could be wrong. We'll know on February 1.
