I know we have Sheppard, no doubt, but we are supposedly taking 2 QBs, so if we dont get the others that we wont, he is an option.

Scout doesn't list him having any offers... I doubt we pursue him hard.

Is this increased interest this year from a ton of QB's as opposed to last year due to Perrilloux's suspension or just the cycle of the QB depth chart?

I don't think the RP situation is figuring into this at all.

Hypothetically if RP is not here in 2009 (which is the true freshman year of whomever we recruit this year), then our projected depth chart would look like:

    1) Jarrett Lee
    2) Andrew Hatch
    3) Jordan Jefferson
    4) Russell Shepard

That's 4 deep, which is what you want.

    We're recruiting a 2nd QB for 2010 and beyond.

I would not be shocked if we only get 1 QB. In fact I hope we only get one, so we can get another stud player at some other position. We're not getting a 2nd stud QB, why settle on a marginal one.

Here is a little more up to date information on Morgan Newton. Scouts.com did not seem to update Newton's offers. He has over 12 now. He has been getting offers since last summer. Here is a short list of written offers: IU, Purdue, Iowa, Louisville, UK, Clemson, VA, Nebraska, and University of Minnesota. Michigan and OSU are courting him. I guess they are waiting on TP's decision before they offer. His parents are from Louisiana.

He will probably continue to look at schools until signing day. He is a very classy and an intelligent kid. He just started to attend camps this year because he was a 3-sport athlete (basketball, football, and baseball) and his schedule did not permit extended travel. I understand from his Dad that he will not play baseball this Spring and will use the time to visit football programs.

His football style is that he will look to throw the football before he runs. He can do both very well. He is extremely strong and very hard to tackle. He is a young Junior - only 16 years old. Some would say he has deceptive speed because of his long strive. I hope Rivals or Scout will post his Junior highlights. He is impressive!

    Check out his website: www.morgannewtonqb.com.
