Same point you're trying to make. LSU doesn't have a veternan QB. IF you don't have a veteran QB, you're not going to do well. See OU and USC (which actually had 2 veterans QB, surprised the heck out of me that PC went with Barkley instead... my guess is he is thinking it will be best to do poorly now because he thinks by doing so with Barkley it will set him team up better for a championship run two years from now).
Bear Bryant is not currently on the LSU coaching staff and has never been to the best of my recollection. His record should not factor into this discussion at all, particularly from the 1960's.
I love how people are quick to jump to OU and USC's defense, but don't want to jump to LSU's defense. It's like some LSU fans have an inferiority complex. OU, USC, and LSU were all in the same boat: no veteran QB.
was their offenses ranked 110th, I thought USC had a defensive meltdown this year for their loses, I still say Crowton will sink CLM ship if he is aloud to stay for next year. OU is ranked 18 and USC 46TH Offensively
Bear coached back when the SEC was a lot weaker than it was now, so his getting those worse-and-worse records was a lot more shocking than an SEC coach doing so today. And yeah, he turned out to be a great coach, but that was mostly after 1970... had you fired him before then, you would have missed out on most of his greatness. As for spending your money on LSU football, yeah, if you don't like the product, then quit spending your money on it. But what is whining and complaining about it going to solve? Nothing. Les in on contract thru 2011 whether you whine and complain about it or not. As for thinking we'll keep getting worse... fine. I think we'll keep getting better. We'll see whose right in 2011 when Les' contract is up. Pointless to whine and complain about it beforehand, especially when all that does it hurt moral in Tiger Nation. If you aren't happy with Les as a football coach, go find another hobby until after the 2011 season when we decide whether we extend his contract or not.
I think that JJ has done ok with what he has to work with and where he is at as a player. Inconsistency seems to be his big fault, a trait that is not helped by our OL problems, or receivers dropping balls that hit them in the hands, or by coaching and playcalling. Improvement in those factors, plus time will make him better. The only problem is that anything mediocre at this point can't get worse for next year, or else the house of cards collapses
Les in on contract thru 2011. Unless I'm right that we have a clause saying we can fire him before then if he doesn't get at least 8 wins. Pointless to whine and complain about it. As for JJ, sure he's done fine. The 20/20 hindsight thing was trusting RP to be the only QB we signed in a 3-year span. But we don't have that problem going forward, we've been signing a QB every single class since then.
Not to mention we had two starting RB's hurt early, and then the main RB hurt in a winnable game against the team playing for the NC.
There is something there---that is indeed missing. You are right on target with your thought about Coach Miles. I also believe his intention was to accept the UM head coaching job---and if things continue the way they are in Ann Arbor--- he will eventually wind up there. Good for you!
