My friend from Alabama says everyone there can't stand Kiffen, but they hated Tennessee already because Fullmer turned them in for recruiting violations. I saw a Florida board where they were calling Kiffen things like Lane snitchen, Line sniffen, and Urban's bitch. So what are we supposed to think. I talked with an Ole Miss alum customer of mine and he thinks Kiffen's a real joke and they're glad to be rid of Orgeron. I'm probably not jumping to conclusions when I think Kiffens got a lot of people thinking he's a real buffoon because that seems to be the prevailing opinion even among people who don't hate UT.

What I'm curious about is what are the higher ups at UT thinking themselves? The way he's apparently treating long term athletic department employees (secretaries and the grad assistants); and the coming NCAA scrutiny concerning all the secondary violations committed by him and his staff.

And as the Ole Miss alum told me... Kiffen's dad has a great reputation among coaching circles and everyone's wondering where his dad is in all this. He has been eerily silent.

Will likely save Lane from being a total train wreck at UT once football has to be played.

They would not have hired Kiffin without his dad being part of the plan.

Well, there has been a lot going on behind the scenes with various influential people making it clear about how Tenn expected their head coach to act. Plus, spring practice is underway so he doesnt have much time to screw up...again. Im told most of his recent interviews have been scripted and screened before he even sits before a reporter. They are trying everything to stop the train wreck and from what I hear it seems to be working. They have moved numerous amounts of personal around within the football operation in an effort to control/monitor/buffer Kiffin. From the sounds of it you may not here much about Kiffin until football season. The Raiders issue is still out there but I dont think you will hear any earth shattering news about that.

Thats EXACTLY the situation Okie. There is a lot of distrust between Kiffin and some of the old guard he see's as being loyal to Fulmer. The AD had no choice but to move some personnel around to help with Kiffin's paranoia. Kiffin may have good reason to be worried. Fulmer has refused to meet with him and there is some back room back stabbing going on. The Fulmer supporters are using Kiffin's well publicized gaffes to make their point about how firing Fulmer was a mistake. Some of these people think if Kiffin screws up enough to get fired that Fulmer would be the only choice to come back and rescue the program. I think much of what happened before a couple weeks ago was being looked at as rookie mistakes. However, when Mr. Jim Haslam (MAJOR BIG BUCKS supporter and board member) made a trip to the AD's office to tell him enough is enough the hammer was brought down with authority. You dont screw around when Haslam makes something known. This guy carries the biggest stick imaginable at Tennessee. Things took a serious turn at that point and the AD had to make some quick moves and get people in place that Kiffin was comfortable with. His butt is on the line too because his main supporter, the President, is on his way out at Tennessee. If Kiffin fails the AD is likely to get the boot as well but its something Tennessee doesnt need right now when they are having to replace a President. If the President wasnt on his way out there is some speculation that Haslam would have already demanded Kiffin be fired.

Overall, things have calmed down quite a bit. The personnel moves made and the admonishment of Kiffin both public and private seem to have an effect. It also doesnt hurt that he had a pretty successful recruiting effort with Bryce Brown which hurts the Fulmer groups efforts. He is on a short leash though but he may have finally got the message. We'll see...
