This whole cancel culture thing has gotten to a ridiculous level from both sides. It's just absurd. Anytime there is even a perceived grievance it is blown out of proportion. The solution to anything these days has been to boycott, erase or eradicate. Anyone who doesn't agree with you is cut out like a cancer. And we wonder why our politics have become so tribal. Social media has amplified it and the media (from both sides...don't kid yourselves.) Turn on your preferred news outlet and they will summarily try to convince you that the other side is responsible for every ill that you are feeling. They use the actions and language of the 10% all the way to the left and the 10% all the way to the right to create their narratives. In recent years they just call each other "fake news" and try to convince their viewers that watching any other news outlet is a waste of your time because it is all lies. It's just a marketing technique to increase viewership and it is being done at the expense of our democracy. The next worst thing is "what-about-ism." It's such an intellectually lazy debate technique. Someone points out something bad that your side has done and you use an example of equally bad behavior from the opposing side as a means for justification. In reality both behaviors are bad and wrong and should be called such by people of good faith. Trump was a womanizer and screwed around on his old lady while she was pregnant plus many other instances.....what about ism says, "Clinton did the same thing." In reality both behaviors are deplorable and should be called such but it doesn't work that way with the what-about-ists.
I'll concede that Trump's womanizing was worse than Clinton's. Bubba gets a pass because his old lady is a wicked witch.
welll..... one could argue that clinton banging an intern is worse. you are not supposed to fuck your subordinates
its not meant to justify. i am not saying either is bad i hope presidents bang everyone hard. whats worse, banging an intern or a prostitute porn star? busting loads on interns dresses in the oval office or fucking playboy playmates before you are elected?
I understand what you're saying, but it's not 'intellectually lazy' if it's being used to call out hypocrisy. If the person in your scenario above is a democrat and they're calling out Trump for womanizing, does that mean they were ok with it when Clinton was doing it? If not, why bring it up at all?
nah its not that deplorable to bang. if clintons intern wanted to blow him i say go for it. we americans are like a bunch of kooky puritans about sex stuff. you wanna bang, bang! good for trump for banging sluts. why even bother being a billionaire if not to bang bitches? i am even somewhat ok with les miles trying to bang college girls. for all i know sometimes they are up for it and he gets some sweet college poon
Poor behavior is poor behavior, regardless of who is responsible for it. I agree that one could use it to call out hypocrisy but that's not how it is being deployed lately....it is more of a standard response for those who cannot defend the actions of their preferred politicians but want to condemn those from the opposition party for equally deplorable behavior. It often places people in the awkward position of ignoring their own long-hold values in order to justify the behavior of someone else.
I used the Clinton and Trump sex things as an example. That is all. If those are your values....fine. They are not mine.
