Phelon Jones transferring from LSU, would like to come to Auburn

Wow, talk about a total surprise. The article has a little more to say including quotes from his dad.

Dunno, but Jones is one LSU castoff I'll be quite happy about welcoming to the Plains. Our secondary is inexperienced by comparison to LSU's, so getting a guy with at least some playing experience will be a bonus.

Hate to see him at an SEC rival but I'm glad things seem amicable. LSU is pretty stacked with athletes at corner and it seems like it's probably a combo of playing time and genuinely wanting to be closer to home.

LSU is closer to home than Auburn.

edit: nothing is official but it will surprise me if miles releases him to a team within the division. also, wont he have to sit out two years? perhaps it was noted in the article, but im lazy.

Shocker..really expected him to be real good, also can't believe we allowed him to go to another SEC School

Had he left with sour grapes and for his own reasons alone, I bet they would have restricted him. But since he's probably doing everything right and just is stuck behind a very talented depth chart, it doesn't surprise me at all if Miles and staff give him a lot more options.

It said he would have two years of eligibility remaining, starting with the 2010 season.

Only way he could play next year would be to take the Perrilloux route and go to a 1-AA school.

I'm glad he's released to go wherever he wants to. Every release should be like that as long as the player is in good graces. When a player lives up to his end of the deal by doing all that is expected of him for the team and the school, the least that the school could do is honor the athlete's wishes.

Thanks for everything Phelon, and Good luck.
