That kind of makes my point. You had to go back through 4 seasons to provide two examples - one proclaiming the epic embarrassment of being tackled by a kicker, and in the other, the guy himself basically admits that he wouldn't be able to tackle in the open field, so he has to catch up to the rest of the coverage team and catch the guy when he isnt looking. Oh, and to the comparison of a female kicker to "a black" as president. opcorn:
As the last line of defense the kicker is more likely to cut off the runner's angle out of bounds, rather than an outright open-field tackle. But even that requires some physicality to pull off against a similarly sized runner sprinting at max speed.
Who really cares why she did it? She knew it was a stretch to make the team and probably knew even more she would get ridiculed by the caveman type. Hell, Anna Kournikova couldn't play tennis but it didn't stop her from making money at it.
I beg to differ with you, I would think any student with athletic eligibility can attempt to join the team as a walk-on.
sure they can. Josh Jasper had 11 tackles (7 solo) as our kickoff specialist but sure, that's not the only reason she didn't make the cut: 1) she wasn't good at kickoffs. she wasn't able to get it in the endzone (although she did get them between the 5-yard line and the goal line). if you can't kick a kickoff into the endzone, you're not going to be able to make a major Div 1 football team as a kickoff specialist 2) not only is she not going to be able to tackle as well as most guys, she also stands a big chance of getting hurt. would you let your daughter play tackle football with guys her age? what about on an SEC football team? i'll give it to Mo, she says: "I'm just fearless. I'm not bound by fear. I think I can handle a hit just fine" -- but realistically, you put her out there against an SEC team and she stands a good chance of getting hurt. now remember, that's kick-off specialist where she didn't make the cut. she is still coming back later to try out at place-kicker (FGs, PATs). place-kicker is a much more reasonable position for a girl. Katie Hnida played place-kicker for her high school, and then for two Div-1 teams: Colorado and New Mexico. Ashley Martin played place kicker for her high school and then Jacksonville State (the school Ryan Perrilloux played QB for after LSU) but, you have to remember, Mo has zero experience being a place-kicker. she didn't play in high school. she just got the idea that it would be a fun thing to try about a year ago. you put her up again people that practiced intensively for years as place-kickers for their high schools, chances are they will be better than her
Anna K. was once the world's 8th ranked ladies' tennis player and won two majors in doubles. "She never reached her potential" = correct. She "couldn't play tennis" = stupid.
I'm sure there's a lot of guys around campus who are willing to volunteer to help her learn to tackle.
LOL@ Miles I do not know if I believe what Miles says now or not . History of Miles and his statements as to why he used JJ .
